Hey all,

The book I am looking for is about a child who is abducted, transported to another world, and is enslaved. After having been enslaved through their teens it's discovered they have magical talent which elevates them from the position of slave. I remember the main character's magic revolving around portals.

The book ends, if I am remembering correctly, with the main character opening a permanent portal between his home world, and the world in which he was raised.

Does the child have a gender and you forgot what the gender is? Series or standalone? Author female or male? Remember the cover?

I think the child was a male, identification is difficult as I remember the sex not mattering because they were a slave in the novel.

I believe it was a part of a series.

Author unknown, I have no recollection as to the gender of the author.

For whatever reason I always picture the covers of Karen Miller novels; this is probably misleading though as I was reading those around the same time.

I read it while still in college; roughly 2011/2012 but they had been out for a number of years by then.

This sounds an awful lot like the first book in the Riftwar Saga with the book title being Magician by Raymond Feist. Is the boy's name Pug?
