Votes are in and our winners are:

1. The Blind Assassin (popular vote)
2. Mansfield Park (randomizer pick

Blind Assassin killed it beating the competition by double the amount of votes. Giovanni's Room was a distant second.

Lots of Atwood books also received votes and a handful of others but this month really centered around a select group of books.

So which books will you be reading in October?

Both books should be easy to people to get their hands on. Mansfield Park is open copyright so available free on project Gutenberg site here: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/141/1...

Hilde (hilded) | 376 comments Yai! :)
I will read The Blind Assassin for sure.
Mansfield Park is on my shelf as well, so maybe that one also if time allows.

message 4: by Leni (new)

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 570 comments Mansfield Park is the only (completed) Austen novel I haven't read, and I was planning to do so this year. October it is then!

I will read The Blind Assassin. I probably have Mansfield Park around or can find a copy easy enough. I can't swear that I will get to it, because it would be a reread.

I am very excited to read Blind Assassin. I have already read Mansfield Park but I do own a copy so I will reread it if I have time since I read it a long time ago.

Also, please let us know if anyone would like to be a moderator for either of the two book discussions. Remember you get 5 points for moderating a discussion.

Mmm, read both, nearly died of boredom with The Blind Assassin, so this leaves me only with the Hercules Labour and Dickens' Bleak House. I might have to attack my randomized list, which now only contains bricks... *sigh*

Well that doesn't sound promising. I almost always agree with your ratings although I do also love Atwood. I'm hoping this is one case where we disagree.

Remember you can request a replacement for your randomizer list but it will cost you participation points. I think you have lots though so it may be worth it for you.

message 10: by John (new)

John Seymour I have both on my shelf, but have recently decided I have too much to read to bother with Atwood any more - I really haven't enjoyed what I've read of hers. I will read Mansfield Park - my first Austen.

message 11: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tstan) | 559 comments I've read both, as well as Bleak House, and am avoiding rereads if possible. So I'll see what kind of mischief Hercules gets into, and study for the Kansas and Missouri pharmacy law exams...hooray.

I will read Blind Assassin for sure.

I have read both and won't reread Austen I may however reread Blind Assassin as it is sitting on my shelf and is one of my favourite books.

message 14: by Paula (new)

Paula S (paula_s) | 220 comments I love Mansfield Park, but I'm not sure I'm up for a reread, and I've ordered The Blind Assassin so unless it is delayed I will read that.

message 15: by Gina (new)

Gina Andrews | 58 comments I own The Blind Assassin and Mansfield Park is available from my local library as an audiobook, so I should be able to read both.

message 16: by Dianne (new)

Dianne | 225 comments I will read Blind Assassin and would be happy to moderate that. Tbd on Mansfield park at this point.

Let me message you. I am going to host a buddy read of Blind Assassin on List. Maybe we can co-host this. I will send you a message. You'd get the moderation points for it but we could coordinate. Thanks for offering!

message 18: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 282 comments I loved Blind Assasin but I don't reread often and it's relatively recent a read. But I haven't read Mansfield Park yet, so that hopefully up in October.

message 19: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 166 comments I have holds on both at the library so whichever comes in first, that's the one I'll try to squeeze in.

message 20: by Sushicat (new)

Sushicat | 292 comments I picked up The Blind Assassin at the library...

message 21: by Melissa (new)

Melissa The Blind Assassin for sure, I already had it picked out to read this fall for another challenge. And since I've never read Mansfield Park yet, I'll see if maybe I can squeeze that one in too.

message 22: by Amie (new)

Amie (amie-b) | 80 comments I've already read The Blind Assassin and I really liked it, but I don't have time to re-read. I will read Mansfield Park.

message 23: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Barringer (Ravenmount) (ravenmount) | 555 comments I read Mansfield Park as a teenager, which was admittedly a while ago, but it is checked off on my list. I might tackle The Blind Assassin if I can find a copy before the end of the month (hopefully at the library, but their collection is spotty). I may try to actually, finally, read Pride and Prejudice, since that is one of the few Jane Austen novels I haven't read(yeah, I know it's not the BOTM, but it seems a good time to add it to me queue while everyone else is reading Jane Austen).
