John Phillips | 3 comments This book was read in Portuguese, but may have also existed in English.
It opens with a description of the birth of the world, when I think it was born out of God singing, or something. Anyways, then there was a town, and everyone was happy. Monsters showed up in the town, and gave the people electric lights. The people had to work long hours, though I don't remember what they were doing, and no one was happy. Then a magic music player, possibly a flute, but almost certainly a wind instrument came to town and turned the monsters into trees with his music. Then everyone was happy again. It was a very sort book, about as long as a Berenstain Bears book, though the illustrations had an older feel.

When did you read it, about? Or about when do you think it was published, what decade? What was the style of illustrations? Author female or male? Remember the cover?

John Phillips | 3 comments I read it about... 15-20 years ago, though it might have been published upwards of 40 years ago. Illustrations were almost impressionistic. https://jappling.files.wordpress.com/... is the best reference I can find, though with more varied colors, and a little more definition. Don't remember the author, or the cover, sadly.

John Phillips | 3 comments Well, I found it. It was "O Flautista Mágico", written by Rubem Alves from Brasil.
