I didn't. I just clicked the link "List with recent activity"...

Lara | 1426 comments I think you're just supposed to use the four that show up on the main page, not those that are on the "More lists with recent activity" page.

message 103: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Funny, when I clicked on the "more lists" link, I got a list for 1st grade read alouds. I don't think Dr. Seuss would fit the challenge criteria ;-)

Yeah... I think, I have misinterpreted the "Head down to the Lists With Recent Activity" indication, and I CLICKED on it, instead of only see it.

What a fantastic and very unique challenge!

My four lists are:-

In Touch with Nature

Possible Reads

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1) by L.M. Montgomery Riddle-Master (Riddle-Master, #1-3) by Patricia A. McKillip

Best Books 2018
The Queers Don't Die

Possible Reads

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters

Bad Girls In Trouble

Well, Best Books of 2018 won't be a list I pick from as they haven't been released yet!

Ariane | 947 comments How can sush a list even exist? Best books of 2018??

message 107: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It's probably books people know will be published and which they have high expectations for (because they're part of a series or they're familiar with the author for example). The name given to the list isn't very precise ;-)

message 108: by [deleted user] (new)

I was wondering if people had received as ARCs perhaps but it also sounds very likely that people are anticipating that they will be "best books". Very silly list title! Luckily I've got plenty to choose from from the other lists!

message 109: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Sep 03, 2017 08:13AM) (new)

Jayme | 4519 comments When I first looked at the list choices my list choices were: Hilarious Love Stories, Sports Romance, Romance Books 2017, and Sports Romances. I have started It Had to Be You under the Sports Romances and realized that it works better for my year long challenge of favorite sports (football), so today I spun the wheel again and got -

History through Novels: Pre-1900s China
Best Page Turners with Redeeming Social Values
The "Can't Wait Books" of 2017
Dual Time Romances

I've decided it is Dual Time Romances and just put the The Rose Garden on hold. September is apparently for "Romance."

message 110: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments My lists were:
Biker or MC romance & erotica - First Books in Series or Serial
Best Feminist Books
Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle
Books about the rich, jet-set, leisure class

I have decided on a different Best Feminist book: The Vagina Monologues

I saw the theater play (monologue) and was very good. I hope you enjoy the book

Apple products. Always have to be different.

All good. Looks like you are all sorted now.

Sarah | 18550 comments Janice wrote: "Most interesting magic system sounds interesting. I shall have to check it out."

It's dangerous. Don't do it. Actually, definitely do it. I added loads to my list although many of them I already own or have read. I also bought a few off the list.

message 115: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments I think I'm going to go with The Mysterious Affair at Styles from the Best Detective/Mystery Series list.

message 116: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments I started Year of Wonders which is #93 on the Recommended Historical Fiction - one of the four lists I got to choose from.

message 119: by Roz (last edited Sep 04, 2017 06:27PM) (new)

Roz | 4530 comments My 4 lists are:

2017 Urban Fantasy (30)

I'm sure I can find something on "Historical Fiction".
Actually The Baker's Secret (#50) that I just started this morning is on it.

Lilisa | 2770 comments Cherie wrote: "I really liked it Lilisa."

Good to know Cherie - thanks. I loved the other book of hers that I've read - People of the Book. Have you read it?

I really enjoyed it too, much more than People of the Book. I've read her non-fiction Nine Parts of Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women, and have March and The Secret Chord waiting to be read. Hopefully I'll get to the Secret Chord this year.

Enjoy!

I have not - yet. I own a copy though, so it is only a matter of time.

message 126: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Well thank goodness for the Harrison Memorial Library Book Club Recommendations list, because my other options were 2014 Romance Releases (I am not a romance novel person), Worst Books of All Time (!!!), and Teacher - Student Affair Novels (What every professor needs to read at the start of a new semester....). The book club list actually looks fantastic though!

message 127: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments It's funny how some of the books on the "worst books of all time" list are some of the best books of all time. A prime example of that is To Kill a Mockingbird.

message 131: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments That sounds like an interesting story line, Rusalka. I added it to my TBR list. Can't wait to see what you think about it.

message 132: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I've heard amazing things about Octavia Butler. She is a bit of an unknown over here, and is an author I fully credit Goodreads for helping me learn about. I will definitely let you know, it's already really intriguing.

message 133: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I'll be interested in your take on the book, Rusalka. I keep seeing that one and am tempted. I have Butler's Wild Seed on audiobook to read. It will be my introduction to her writing.

Rusalka wrote: "I'm going to read Kindred off Science Fiction Books by Female Authors."

I really enjoyed Kindred. I listened to it on audio earlier this year. I thought it was well written but hoped it had been a bit longer. Hope you enjoy it!

message 135: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Thanks Anna. Only 40pp to go. Enjoy is an odd word for this book, but I am definitely captivated, and I do love her writing!

message 136: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, you are right - "enjoy" is an odd word to use as the subject matter certainly did not bring me pleasure! It is a harrowing read and a book that I did not stop thinking about for some time.

message 137: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 336 comments I'm reading Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher from most interesting magic system list. Its been on my tbr for a long time.

message 139: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments It does not look like I am going to finish the challenge, Rusalka, but I want to say what great idea it is/was.

I am always fascinated by lists and it was a fun look at what is always coming up on Listopia. It is an amazing tool and somewhat quirky search engine for book titles, if you can figure out what to ask it. I have voted on some of the lists over the years, but it truly is amazing to see what is really out there!

message 140: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I read One Good Earl Deserves a Lover, from the list https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/4...
Did the book belong on this list? Maybe. The heroine was very smart about science and academic subjects, but she seemed completely lacking in common sense. This was, I thought, an exceptionally stupid romance. It was my second stab at reading a book from this list. First I tried Murder at Irish Mensa, but I gave up somewhere after a hundred pages because it was so dull, and so long. As far as I read, there was no sign of any romance, though the main character was smart enough.

I just looked at the list of books, Casceil. I noticed that The Chemist is on it. Reading the criteria of the list, I guess it fits. I thought it was a great story.

message 145: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Rusalka - I might have read a book for this challenge after all. I will check to see if it is on the list.

message 146: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Let us know!

message 147: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Nope, my book did not make the list, CLEAN Romance Books criteria specify kissing, even passionate kissing is okay, but NO-Sex. My book had one tiny little scene. There are 2,189 books on this list; many, many YA and all of the Jane Austin novels and other classics. I guess I won't be getting a badge after all. I know that there is still 2 1/2 days, but I do not own any of the books I see on the list (I scanned all 22 pages) and I do not want to buy one right now.

Oh, hang on - I just checked my library hold on Clockwork Angel. The ebook is now available! (I had a hold on both the audio and ebook version.) Downloading.... I guess I will be doing a reading marathon.

message 148: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments I'm in a similar situation, Cherie. I have a book that fits, but I guess I just wasn't in the mood to start it yesterday. I tried, but had to re-listen to the first few minutes 3 times, so I gave up. I'll try again, but I'm not sure I'll make it before the end of the month.

message 149: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments I'm not going to finish my book. I think I just picked the wrong book for my mood.
