SOLVED. Post apocalyptic superflu novel - not The Stand. [s]

Here's what I know: the main story takes place in the midwest. A superflu type event takes place, like The Stand. This time, they discover, albeit too late, that dog saliva into a would grants the person immunity. One of the characters, a girl, is in a car accident when she is licked by a dog after escaping, or being thrown from the vehicle. Later, when her family dies, a family friend decides to gather people and take refuge in a department store. I also recall some truckers, one nicknamed Tomahawk, who actually carried one. There's a bad guy, of course, a Randall Flagg type character. I also remember one of the survivors, I think his name was Jake or Jason, went looking for a place for the survivors to live permanently, and found a place in Texas run by military guys. I want to say the word Fury was in the title. There was a cutout in the cover, which was an open mouth baring fangs, and inside, flames and what appeared to be children cowering. Please help!
