Sara Nominate one book you would like the group to read for October’s monthly challenge – a book with a mythical creature.

Post the title and author (please use the add book link for the book title, if possible).

Rules:
One nomination of one book per member. If you post multiple books only the first one will be counted.

You must list the title in your comment in order to count.

The top 6 most nominated books will be added to a poll which will open after the nominations have been closed and counted.

Nominations will close on August 23 (likely sometime in the morning Eastern time).

No other posts in this thread. If you wish to discuss the merits of the books you can do so on the individual prompt thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I'm kind of curious to read The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break, so I nominate that one, going on the theory that if it is chosen, I'll be extra motivated to push it to the top of my list.

message 3: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) I'm going to nominate Kitsune: A Little Mermaid Retelling. It has a high average rating and has been on my TBR pile for a while Mythical creature is a mermaid, aka a Kitsune.

Stephanie | 26 comments I'd like to nominate The Last Unicorn, which I admit that I've already read, but would love to have a group discussion about.

If we're only nominating books we haven't yet read, I'd like to nominate Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman. It's on my TBR list and I've already heard good things about it from other readers. Also, Gaiman's work seems to be the topic of a lot of discussion/adaptations right now.

You have to be on GR from internet, not app. Then you will see above the comment box a tab to add book/author.

It is irritating that all features are not part of app, at least not in android, but I solved it by bookmarking GR on both my tablet and smartphone.

Judith | 11 comments Is Frankenstein also a mythical creature? Then this would be nice... a real classic.

message 24: by Charlsa (new)

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 195 comments I nominate The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye by A.S. Byatt. This is a collection of fairy tales for adults. I read one of these stories because it was included in Possession, a Booker Prize winner. I was so taken with her fairy tale that I read this collection.

The magnificent title story of this collection of fairy tales for adults describes the strange and uncanny relationship between its extravagantly intelligent heroine--a world renowned scholar of the art of story-telling--and the marvelous being that lives in a mysterious bottle, found in a dusty shop in an Istanbul bazaar. As A.S. Byatt renders this relationship with a powerful combination of erudition and passion, she makes the interaction of the natural and the supernatural seem not only convincing, but inevitable.

The companion stories in this collection each display different facets of Byatt's remarkable gift for enchantment. They range from fables of sexual obsession to allegories of political tragedy; they draw us into narratives that are as mesmerizing as dreams and as bracing as philosophical meditations; and they all us to inhabit an imaginative universe astonishing in the precision of its detail, its intellectual consistency, and its splendor.

message 38: by Chantal (new)

Chantal Grech | 6 comments I think I'll nominate Phoenix and Ashes (Elemental Masters, #3) by Mercedes Lackey by Mercedes Lackey. One of my favourite books of hers and is set in the elemental masters series during World War I. It's a retelling of the Cinderella story but with more magic as well as introducing readers to PTSD or shell shock experienced by soldiers during the war.

You can also use basic html instead of the tab. The one thing I'm going to change in hopes of you being able to see it is where the [ should be I'll call it LeftBracket and where the ] should be I'll call RightBracket.

LeftBracketbook: Title of BookRightBracket

Authors tags work similarly.

LeftBracketauthor: Author NameRightBracket

Hope this helps. :)
