October group read - nominate a book with a mythical creature
I'm kind of curious to read The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break, so I nominate that one, going on the theory that if it is chosen, I'll be extra motivated to push it to the top of my list.
I'm going to nominate Kitsune: A Little Mermaid Retelling. It has a high average rating and has been on my TBR pile for a while Mythical creature is a mermaid, aka a Kitsune.
I'd like to nominate The Last Unicorn, which I admit that I've already read, but would love to have a group discussion about. If we're only nominating books we haven't yet read, I'd like to nominate Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman. It's on my TBR list and I've already heard good things about it from other readers. Also, Gaiman's work seems to be the topic of a lot of discussion/adaptations right now.
I would love to read The Jersey Devil by Hunter Shea ! I have read some of his other works, and they have been great AND affordable via Kindle, as well. --Jen from Quebec :0)
Rachel wrote: "Hi all, please can someone kindly remind me of how to include book link for the book title? Thanks!"You have to be on GR from internet, not app. Then you will see above the comment box a tab to add book/author.
It is irritating that all features are not part of app, at least not in android, but I solved it by bookmarking GR on both my tablet and smartphone.

Thank you Theresa!
The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own MakingThis entire series is incredible. I love the entire world of these books.
Simant wrote: "How about Game of thrones? That contains Dragons!"I'll second this!
A Game of Thrones
The Golem and the Jinni!!!! I'm currently reading it precisely for this prompt and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised!!!!
Artemis Fowl I found the synopsis for this very interesting! I really hope people see this and vote for this :)
I nominate The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye by A.S. Byatt. This is a collection of fairy tales for adults. I read one of these stories because it was included in Possession, a Booker Prize winner. I was so taken with her fairy tale that I read this collection. The magnificent title story of this collection of fairy tales for adults describes the strange and uncanny relationship between its extravagantly intelligent heroine--a world renowned scholar of the art of story-telling--and the marvelous being that lives in a mysterious bottle, found in a dusty shop in an Istanbul bazaar. As A.S. Byatt renders this relationship with a powerful combination of erudition and passion, she makes the interaction of the natural and the supernatural seem not only convincing, but inevitable.
The companion stories in this collection each display different facets of Byatt's remarkable gift for enchantment. They range from fables of sexual obsession to allegories of political tragedy; they draw us into narratives that are as mesmerizing as dreams and as bracing as philosophical meditations; and they all us to inhabit an imaginative universe astonishing in the precision of its detail, its intellectual consistency, and its splendor.
Theresa wrote: "The Bear and the Nightingale - delightful read!"I would second the Bear and the Nightingale nomination.
I nominate The Changeling by Victor LaValle. I read it for the challenge concerning an author of color, but it does involve mythical creatures and it is an absolutely excellent and timely read.
I think I'll nominate
by Mercedes Lackey. One of my favourite books of hers and is set in the elemental masters series during World War I. It's a retelling of the Cinderella story but with more magic as well as introducing readers to PTSD or shell shock experienced by soldiers during the war.
AF wrote: "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander (by J.K. Rowling)"I nominate this too!
Rachel wrote: "Hi all, please can someone kindly remind me of how to include book link for the book title? Thanks!"You can also use basic html instead of the tab. The one thing I'm going to change in hopes of you being able to see it is where the [ should be I'll call it LeftBracket and where the ] should be I'll call RightBracket.
LeftBracketbook: Title of BookRightBracket
Authors tags work similarly.
LeftBracketauthor: Author NameRightBracket
Hope this helps. :)
