I'm pretty puzzled by the whole (view spoiler)[Night's Watch (hide spoiler)] thing. When Jon said, (view spoiler)["There's still a Night's Watch?" I thought, "There's still a Night's Watch?" Granted, you need somewhere to send the worst criminals, but there's not much for them to keep at bay. Also, with no White Walkers or angry Northerners to scare them into shape, and with all the Night Watch's strict, honor-bound leadership dead, it seems strange to send those freshly-minted criminals to hang out unsupervised at the now-broken Wall. Prison might be more appropriate. (hide spoiler)].

But...never mind.

Whoever "won" the throne game, some segment of the Internets would be outraged. I'm fine with the winner, and with the other major characters' rewards and comeuppances.

In the show, Bran (view spoiler)[ never says he can see the future, I don't think. I just finished a full re-watch of the series, so it's fresh for me (though I could be mistaken). All of his visions are of the past and the present. I barely remember the books at this point, but in the show it's not stated that he sees the future. (hide spoiler)]

Wasting so many minutes on Tyrion walking through King's Landing's destruction, which we already saw at the end of the last episode with Arya... arranging chairs around a table... blinking... breathing... etc: F

(view spoiler)[It definitely had some plot holes and out of character moments, but I still enjoyed it. Like most people, the fact that Grey Worm just let Tyrion and Jon live was completely out of character. I do like that they are going to Naath. I think there was something mentioned about the people of Naath not having fighters, so it's at least fitting that Grey Worm wants to help.

I did like that we came full circle with the first and last scene of the series. The first scene was the night watch brother finding the white walkers in the forest and running south, and the last scene was Jon and the Wildlings heading peacefully north into the forest.

I watched the episode with some friends, and we were talking about how we liked where the series ended, but not how it got there. I just think it was rushed, and 6 episodes was not enough to wrap up such an epic series. I'm just sad the books aren't finished, because I want to know how things really happen. (hide spoiler)]

Myself, I'm not unhappy with the ending. Seems like the typical non "happily ever after" of a lot of more recent darker fantasy series. As I've said before, (view spoiler)[I totally buy the Dany going crazy bit which has been foreshadowed in the series and wouldn't be unexpected in the development of her character from the book (spoiled hormone ridden teenager).

If the series timeline had followed the book timeline, she'd be about 17-19 years old and more inclined to have a knee-jerk reaction to adversity and thinking she's absolutely right about everything. The TV series actually made her a more sympathetic character than the books did. And Brienne could be very boring in the books. (hide spoiler)]

That's good! In fact Tad Williams' "Shadowmarch" was the series I turned to, when I got fed up with GRRM's not being able to finish his series - it's roughly around the same topics, but much tighter written and it has an ending :D.

I think the last season proves what genius George R. R. Martin is and that his ideas and masterly storytelling were the reasons why GoT has been so brilliant for many years.
Once the showrunners ran out of material written by him and had to come up with their own ideas, they failed miserably. Which also shows that the showrunners are great when it comes to adaption but poor with developing their own stories.
Basically, everything they did in the last season made no sense, and I understand that people started a petition for HBO to reshoot the last season with good writers ;)

I wouldn't say miserably as it was still better than a lot of TV series and it did follow Martin's plans. it could have been magnificent but it became more "normal" rather than exceptional - in other words, it suffers by comparison to the earlier season.

So, I really hope Martin finishes the books (Rothfuss too).

I bet with you Martin will end his saga completely different than the show.
See it from his perspective. He basically fed the showrunners to the sharks and now his own ending will shine like a diamond compared to what we saw on TV.
There is no chance in hell that what they came up with was his idea. There's so much that contradicted with what he wrote in the books (e.g. melting Young Griff and Jon Snow into one character).
However, I totally agree with you that even the last season of GoT beats 90% of most of the shows we see on TV by miles.

I hope that the series is written to the end but I could not understand the bashing of the GOT show. It was sad but real and in the author's style. I was OK with the last season. It was beautiful and made sense in the parameters of the story themes. Not exactly what me as a reader would wish, but GOT never followed what a reader wished as happy endings would go.
