He's got a kindle keyboard.Do they need to be registered before those features work?

Hi, the collection has to be made in your amazon cloud. Than you'd upload it to the device you wish. It may be kindle app for PC, or tablet as well.
I imagine registering it would remove access to any books on there that have been purchased on Amazon, as they will be linked to the registration details and cloud base of the prior owner.

You can but I think you need to register it to your Amazon account first.
I don't have any collections on my knuckles. (That's auto correct for kk btw!) Just a big lump of nearly 900 books, in the order I've read them. Luckily I've never had to search for anything!
Yes, registering is needed in order to use it with amazon ebooks.I'm a collection freak myself and it's imperative since over 6000 pz in my cloud. What I love is the PC app and that program gives its collection possibility.
But the idea is all about the Kindle e-readers. Amazon takes care for the customers having multiple devices. Everything is clear and easy enough.
What is all this collection nonsense?My Kindle book-buying process is as follows:
Buy book.
Read book until finished.
Buy another book.
Read book until finished.
Etc.
No need to buy in advance when delivery is instantaneous.
I don't bother with collections. I just have books. 😵
I've got a lot of books I want to read on my PC, and just want to shift stuff from PC to Kindle. It never occurred to me to register the kindle with Amazon as there's nothing I particularly want them to do with it(I've a gut feeling that Amazon knows far too much about me already :-( )
So how do I shift books from my computer to the kindle?

You can use software like Calibre to convert, if necessary. Calibre can also link to your kindle and transfer the books into the correct folder on the kindle, as well as viewing what's on the kindle already, and making a backup of those books too, if you want.
You can register the kindle to your Amazon account, then turn on airplane mode - this will let you create collections on the kindle itself (though obviously not download items). You can them simply use a usb cable to transfer books to and from your pc to the kindle.
Just received my 4th exchange Kindle Fire 8. I keep getting bright patches on my screens. No problems with exchanges - I just contact them and tell them and the exchange comes through 2 or 3 days later. Am I just super unlucky with this type of Kindle....... or have others experienced this same problem?
A quick Google doesn't turn up any results about brights patches on the Kindle Fire.Are you sure you haven't been accidentally staring at light bulbs and getting bright blob in the center of your vision...?

Do you notice the bright spots just when you use the kindle app, or all the time, Flo?
They are there all the time - but more visible when reading .

No, I was aiming that remark at Michael. I don't use the blue shade thing.
I do if I'm reading late-ish at night.
I change the background from white to sepia.
I suppose that would have a similar effect.
If anyone is tempted to repair their keyboard when the battery dies I can say it's worth it. It cost about £8. Postage free for a replacement I got off EBay and husband changed it last week. It didn't even lose its memory. He's very pleased.

Just copy the file into the 'documents' directory then do the usual safely remove thing and pull out cable. Kindles are really easy that way.

I did wonder if I could store the documents in files to make the file a collection but that doesn't appear to work
Well my 4th Kindle Fire is up and running and something I didn't expect happened. All the other times I've had a replacement.... all my files, pictures and books are there, but usually I have to re-input wifi passwords from places that were previously remembered by my old kindle, but when I visited my Sister today - I didn't have to do this - it remembered!!

It simplifies things a lot. :-) but that sodoes require registering it with Amazon.

Sadly the usable memory is only 5,3 GB and this is tooooo little.

I've worked out that reading in 'landscape' with the page just nicely filling the page of the kindle seems to be fine for me
I've not bothered with the wi fi on the grounds I'd have to sit next to the desktop computer to get it anyway. (We have nothing else that depends on wi fi)
So I just transfer over the wire :-)

Came upon a problem
When I go to the home screen and click on the menu I get
Turn Wireless on
Shop in Kindle Store
Search
Settings
Experimental
These are all in bold
Greyed out and unobtainable are
View archived items
Create New Collection
Sync and Check for items
View downloading items
At the moment I cannot find out how to click of Create new Collections
What am I doing wrong?
