Emma | 74 comments Goodreads has an authors page for Osho.
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Osho is a different name for Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.
He first called himself Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and later he called himself Osho.

In fact, many books that he fist published under Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh he later republished under Osho, though sometimes with a slightly fancier title.

There are 55 distinct works now listed under Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
As this is the exact same guy as Osho, and even the titles of the books match (well mostly), I would want to suggest that all Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh books are being given Osho as author name as well, and are then combined were possible.

I understand this is a big operation, and maybe you'd want to think this over with super librarians or staff.

Just let me know if I can be of assistance, for instance by raising issues to combine the Bhagwan and Osho editions title by title. One issue per title.

Thanks

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments If books were published under Bhagwan they have to keep that name and all later editions of the same book published under Osho need Bhagwan as primary author and Osho as secondary

So, yes that will be a lot of work - and as I found a book with Bhagwan on cover with only Osho as entered author (which is not possible according to GR policy) it's even more work because it needs checks on that too.

If you have knowledge about which books belong together that will probably be a help.

Perhaps you want to carry that to the "looking for a project" folder? (or rivka can move it perhaps?)

Emma | 74 comments Thanks for replying.

Would your ruling make it possible to combine the editions of the same book when one edition is published before the name change and the other afterward?

Yes, I have some understanding about the subjects and the books.

I'm not a librarian, but have applied to be one to contribute to this sort of stuff. But I an contribute as a member too, by sorting these books out and suggesting combinations.

Scott | 9538 comments The books would be combined if they are the same work.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments The rule ist the way to make combining possible actually. Because you can only combine books with the same primary author and as Bhagwan was first it's the one that trumps the later one.

In some cases, a book may be originally published under a pen name, but then later reissued under the author's original name. When this happens, the author listed for any and all editions should be the author name the book was originally published under - so the reissued edition would need its primary author name changed to the originally published pen name, with the additional name added as secondary for all editions with it on the cover. Doing this will allow the various editions to be combined. (from the manual)

(if you want to become a librarian reading the manual can be really helpful https://www.goodreads.com/librarian_m... - everybody should have read that before making edits which can really create a mess (although I doubt everybody does))

Emma | 74 comments That's a clear ruling that will work.
Thanks for sharing.
I have in fact read the manual, but apparently I skipped some stuff.

Maybe it's an idea that all the issues regarding this one project are gathered/raised in one long thread called the "Bhagwan - Osho Combination thread" or something. That way it won't be scattered all over the place and consistency can more easily been maintained.

Unless you want to carry it to the 'Looking for a project folder' and have the "BOC"-thread start from there.

Thanks for all the assistence!

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments That name rule is a quite important one because you can create a hell of work with it ...
It would take 3 clicks to merge Bhagwan into Osho and then the Baghwan name wouldn't exist in the database at all - that would mean, everbody with an older book searching for him wouldn't find him (and everybody who cares about what's on the cover) - but it would costs lots of hours to sort that out again and find in all these books and editions the ones written under Bhagwan and add the name again to them (and their later editions)

(as I came across an edition with only Bhagwan on the cover and Osho as single author name I assume someone actually had merged that once (or I'm just lucky and find two in just two tries))

Thanks for the explanation!

Emma | 74 comments Done. I've been made librarian over night. :-)
I've made Bhagwan Shree Rasjneesh primary author of all the the editions, keeping Osho second were needed, as per Lachgas's suggestion and then combined the bunch.
