Mike Changes to Kindle,

message 2: by Mike (new)

Mike I know that a fairly good number of members use Kindle to read book selections. I have also been using the highlighting feature to mark specific lines of text that were of interest. Kindle used to keep track of your highlights in a separate data set in the cloud. This was a very useful feature to review a book or to include quotes in a paper you may be writing. Amazon has discontinued this service, which breaks my heart.

However, Amazon has said that comments will be available on Good Reads. I do not know how this will work but wanted to let all of you know about the change.

As I find out more I will post it. Please let everyone know if you have more information.

So let me understand. The highlights are not on the tablet itself? Do the ones that are there disappear?

Oh that's horrible, Mike. In general I don't care for ebooks, but that was one of the features I liked about Kindle. Now there is even less reason to buy them.

The highlights may still be available on GR. I don't know but am trying to find out more; I really hope they are.

But why would my highlights and notes not be on the tablet itself. I don't synch to any cloud. As far as i can tell they are on the Kindle memory. Now if I should archive the book, and then tried to reload it back, I can see how the highlights and notes would be lost.

Mike Just to finish this thread. The highlights created on kindle that were updated when users sync'd their devices are on:

read.amazon.com

I checked and all of my previous highlights are there and I am able to down load them. This will save a lot of re-typing when trying to quote from a previous book.
