Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments Do you mean free fiction audio or horror in general? If so Dread Media is my absolute favorite

Here are some others always on my Ipod. They talk about films (mostly), the industry and occasionally fiction.

Horror News Radio
Horroretc
The B Movie Cast
Bloody Good Horror
Monster Kid Radio
Night of the Living Podcast
Monster Movie Podcast
The Walking Dead Cast

That should get you started. Many come and go but these are still alive and kicking as of today.

message 2: by Plaguedoctor (new)

Plaguedoctor We're Alive is a really good podcast if you like zombies. I also used to listen to Psuedo Pod but then stopped listening because I didn't like a lot of their stories. You might find it interesting though, so I suggest you check it out.

message 3: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments these are my regulars:
horror etc.
jim Harold's campfire (ppl share their paranormal expriences)
anything ghost (same as above)
h.p. lovecraft literary podcast
the double shadow (clark ashton smith)
1951 down place (hammer movies)
a podcast to the curious (m.r. james)

on occasion I still listen to the b-movie podcast. if you don't like the format of the h.p lovecraft podcast, don't bother with the double shadow or a podcast to the curious. they all use the same. I love it but my husband doesn't. they read a bit of the story then discuss. hope these help!

message 4: by Siegfried (new)

Siegfried (ingosiegfried) | 3 comments Well, I really love Welcome to Night Vale.
It's funny and heavily based on lovecraft, but more focused on humor.

message 5: by Shawn (new)

Shawn | 1168 comments PlagueDoctor - I'm sorry to hear we lost you as a listener. If you give me an idea of what styles of horror you like, I might be able to direct you to recent specific episodes in that style. I pride myself on the range and variety of types of horror we try to cover but there are some drawbacks to that approach.

I might also suggest:

TALES TO TERRIFY
NIGHTMARE
FIDDLEBLACK

I've heard a lot of good things about this podcast but I haven't listened to it yet.

message 7: by Siegfried (new)

Siegfried (ingosiegfried) | 3 comments I advise you to it. It has a lot of "WTF did I just heard??" but all on a funny way with a lot of lovercraftian influences

message 8: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments do I need to start at the beginning or can I just pick one?

message 9: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3059 comments I need to start listening to these. I started listening to pseudopod and I guy I'm friends with on Facebook has his own horror podcast.

Totally agree about We're Alive. It's finishing up now, but it's been solidly good through four or five seasons now.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments Thanks for all of the suggestions and keep them coming!

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments I recently found Lore and find it pretty interesting.

"Lore is a bi-weekly podcast about true life scary stories.

The people, places, and things of our darkest nightmares all have real facts at their core. Each episode of Lore looks into a uniquely scary tale and uncovers the truth behind it.

Sometimes the truth is more frightening than fiction."

message 13: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments Thanks for sharing. I'll check out lore.

ohh! thanks for sharing, I haven't heard of this one.

message 15: by Michael (new)

Michael Hicks (michaelpatrickhicks) | 989 comments I've been enjoying The Horror Show with Brian Keene and Three Guys With Beards (not strictly horror-related, but the hosts [Jonathan Maberry, James A. Moore, Christopher Golden] have done plenty of horror stuff).

message 16: by Alledria (new)

Alledria (alledriaehurt) | 2 comments Getting lots of good recommendations.

I also think Welcome to Nightvale is quite funny. If you haven't given it a shot, you really should.

message 17: by Michael (new)

Michael Hicks (michaelpatrickhicks) | 989 comments Alledria, there's a Night Vale book coming out later this month. Been a while since I've checked in with the podcast, but I'll definitely be checking out this work.

message 18: by Chuck (new)

Chuck Hatcher | 77 comments The Movie Crypt with Adam Green and Joe Lynch is good. I also enjoy Killer POV

message 19: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 134 comments There are some good recommendations here. Can anyone recommend a podcast that reviews horror books as well as movies?

Thanks.

message 20: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments oh, I haven't found one but I'd be interested in that too

message 21: by Casshole (new)

Casshole (screamingspines) The No Sleep Podcast is amazing! It's people narrating stories from the no sleep thread on Reddit. Also The Last Podcast on the Left is really good and hilarious, three guys talking about anything and everything scary/horror/monsters/ghosts.

message 22: by Kylie (new)

Kylie (new-vogue-ravyn) | 113 comments I like Don't Read the Latin, which is a horror film podcast run by author Michael Montoure and his friend Jen who is a huge cinemaphile. Much of the time it's like listening to two of your friends chatting about films, which I find endearing.

message 23: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3059 comments I need to start checking out some Horror podcasts so I think I'll make a goal and resolution to do so. Also maybe even do my own podcast or small segment video on horror if I really get inspired.

message 24: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 134 comments This is pretty interesting. And it includes a list of nominees for horror podcast of the year.

I just started listening to both of these recently. I could do with less promoting of sponsors on The Horror Show, though I understand why they do it. And Brian and Dave are quite entertaining. There was one episode where Brian repeated the same spiel about their hosting platform 3 times (because he didn't have much else to talk about that episode). I have quite enjoyed both so far.

Glad you're liking them, Robert! I understand the complaint about advertising, but agree it's a necessary evil. On the other hand, a few titles have made it onto my wish list and to-read piles as a result of those plugs, so I won't complain too loudly. At least it's book related, and not a weird random plug for trail mix or something. :)

message 31: by Marti (new)

Marti (hummingbirding) I just got into podcasts and really like Horror News Radio so far. Their best horror movies of 2015 episode refilled my movie list and I'm really excited about it (going to watch Bone Tomahawk today).
I've downloaded some from Last Podcast on the Left which sounds intriguing since it's about both real and imagined horror, lots of serial killer episodes.
I can't seem to find any about horror books... recommendations?

message 32: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments I don't know if any. But if u do find some, let me know.

message 33: by Pixelina (new)

Pixelina | 64 comments I just found 2 new (for me) podcasts
The Black Tapes
Tanis

Some of the episodes actually managed to scare me.
They are well produced and sequensed faux-documentary (I actually had to check the web to be sure after the first 3 episodes )

message 34: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments I love the black tapes but I haven't tried tanis. Isn't that a herb? Tanis root... Or is that something I just dreamed up?

message 35: by Danny (new)

Danny Farham (dannyfarham) I'm listening to The Black Tapes, and it's the best horror podcast I've heard. I would also recommend- The nosleep poscast

yes! the black tapes is awesome. i haven't listened to the no sleep podcast. i just discovered just a story podcast and i really like it too. it's centered around urban legends!

message 37: by Joshua (new)

Joshua (jdub_81) So many horror podcasts I haven't heard of yet! Lore is great, Pseudopod and Nightmare have some good stories too. Nosleep has music and sfx which creates a good atmosphere, as does the Drabblecast. I haven't noticed a mention of the Faculty of Horror, the hosts do an excellent job analysing and critiquing horror films.

message 38: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments I have found some new to me podcast.
small town horror- very much like the black tapes.
Tanis- like the black tapes.
Chilling Tales- reading of 2 chilling tales.
Pleasing Terrors- kinda like Lore
The Folklore podcast- exactly that and LOVE it! listen to apple pf your eye <3 <3 <3

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

I just started listening to podcasts regularly (my first addiction is Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, which is fantastic). You all have given me a ton of podcasts to check out. One that I just started listening to is called Stephen King Cast. Each episode is about an hour long and centers on a specific King novel or film adaptation. Pretty interesting stuff for a King fanboy like myself.

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments Those sound good, I love history. I'll stay away from the SK one. I haven't read all his books & want to avoid spoilers. We will be starting Christine soon if you'd like to join Jesse.

David Brian (davidbrian) | 1673 comments I'm only a year or so into podcasts (late to the party as usual), but so far I've enjoyed listening to The Black Tapes, The Nosleep Podcast, The Horror Show with Brian Keene, and Three Guys With Beards,

ETA: This thread offers up some interesting sounding options. Thanks to all!

message 42: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments Yeah I like the black tapes too. I've started listening to tanis cause they seem to ignoring the black tapes. Did u catch the Halloween show? Hello Carmilla!

message 43: by Ken B (new)

Ken B | 6813 comments I have been listening to Mysterious Universe for about a year. While not a "horror" podcast, they spend a considerable amount of time on the paranormal.

Also, just in the last week, I have started listening to Beyond Reality Radio that is co-hosted by Jason Hawes from the Ghost Hunters TV show.

I'll definitely be a part of that read! I haven't read Christine since I was in high school. That was a while back. Haha
