Scarlett and Marcus join forces pretty quickly, contrary to police policy and her own bad experiences. Was that plausible (in real life)?

I think it would be unlikely, in real life. However, I don't necessarily read these books for true-detective stories!

I have no idea what real life would look like. I don't read true crime or watch any true crime TV shows. I suppose a cop could hook up with a newsman, but it seems like Marcus got a lot more involved than any newsman would.
