ABANDONED. About a group of teens trying to take down a big medical corporation

The book starts with a boy walking down a dingy apartment building corridor with his back pretty much to the wall (as from memory it was a bad/rough neighbourhood) on his way to the apartment he lives in with is Mother. His Mother is on some sort of trial medication (I think she is being paid by a medical corporation to be on this trail as she is ill and/or needs the money). (I think) The boy's Mother gets sicker and may even die but something happens and the boy tries to take down the corporation who seems to run EVERYTHING! He gets into the labs/hospital at some point and discribes everything (floors, walls and cellings) as being bright white. He goes on the run with a group of teens who are also trying to take down the corporation.

Were there any supernatural elements at all? Because this reminds me of Kelley Armstrong's Darkness Rising series, but I never got around to reading them so I'm not sure.

Hey Marie and Kris, after skimreading the short stories that sounds very close to the book I'm trying to find though I can't ever remember there being a supernatural aspect to the story, so sadly I don't think that's it.Thank you very much for trying though.
