R15: Team #17 ~ Napping Snipers

Shelf #5: Vampires
Date finished/Rating: 9/10 ★★★
Review: I know I said in the reviews of the past 6 books (this is #7) that I wouldn't continue the series.

I lasted almost 3 years without continuing the series! I blame BS Bingo for making me fall off the wagon.
Anyhow, I enjoyed this book a lot more than the previous ones. I thought the relationship happened a bit too fast, specially since the heroine had been traumatized by vampires in her childhood, so how she got over that he was one too, was crazy. The whole overall plot with Dragos and the Ancient is still going strong though. I wonder if he's really dead.
I'm giving up on giving up on this series though. It seems that no matter my intentions, I always go back to it and now I want to see what the Ancient did to Jenna and what's the deal with Hunter and Harvard. I think though that I'll try it in print. The narrator SUCKS. She has the worst male voices.

Once we get the stamps for Free Space and Vampires, we'll have 3 in a row in two ways...
What is anybody hoping for the next shelf? I REALLY need to read

That's on my next list (as in need to read ASAP) so here's hoping!

Okay, DG. This book just came up as need to read in the next week for another challenge so let's keep our fingers and toes crossed!

I'm going to have to read the Heartstriker book on my own...I can't wait another week.

Shelf #6: Spin-off
Date finished/Rating: 9/15 ★★★
Review: I hate this author's penchant for chopping up a story just to get two books out of it. There's really no need, unless you count making readers buy two books instead of one.
Boone Thrasher is a famous country singer when his girlfriend stands him up the night he was going to propose. He goes to a bar to drown his sorrows where he meets Ripley, the bar owner. In a few days, Boone goes from being crestfallen about his girlfriend to pretty much fawning all over Ripley, like she's the answer to all his prayers. After spending some time with Ripley, he realized that he dodged a bullet with Amber. After all, they never had anything in common and she didn't share his dreams for the future (why he didn't realize this before was beyond me.)
Not sure I care enough to read the second book.

Megan hasn't checked in about a week...I'll give her another day to see if she posts something and if not, I'll PM her.

I decided to change my book for Vampires to

I have a question about the new shelf. If I were to restart the book I had wanted to use for the free space,

If you restart it, I imagine it's allowed but it's always best to check with the mods. Sandra always checks the threads but just in case, ask in the discussion group!

Awesome when that happens! :)
I updated your Vampires and Free Space book in Message 22. I'll update Spin Off when you confirm with the mods. :)

Ah no worries. I tend to post books for reading once I read few pages and know that I'll stick with it. :) Otherwise, I'll keep changing my mind, LOL!

Review - Vlad remains one of my favorite characters in the series. With this book, Leila is starting to grow on me. Leila is becoming more used to Vlad's world while still keeping the strong parts of her personality.

This book almost made me throw my IPad across the room. The characters were idiots, Georgie's dad was a misogynistic assmunch and the part where they try to redeem him just made me madder. I think it tried too hard. The whole book just tried way too hard which left me feeling annoyed. It also feels like it was the middle of the series rather than a standalone spinoff. If I didn't need it for this challenge, this would have been a DNF. It only gets 2 stars for a small moment at the end where I teared up a bit. Other than that, waste of time.

I knew nothing about what this book was about going into it, I was looking for a book set in Russia and this fit the bill, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was a fantasy book. The world built was interesting and Katiya was a fun main character, though I didn't understand her behavior a couple of times - but maybe that has more to due with the time period she lived in? I'm curious enough about the next book that I hope to be able to read it soon.

An interesting story, that I enjoyed reading. It did become a little tedious to read after the halfway point, but mostly because people's actions didn't seem realistic for the circumstances. Trella was a good main character, but she did jump to conclusions a lot. I'll be reading the sequel and am hopeful things will wrap up well.

Good to know I'm not the only one! That's a good idea, about waiting until after reading a few pages before posting, I'll try to do that from now on. :)

Woohoo!! Thanks so much Steph!!

I had been saving it for Half and Half but given how my luck is going, it's likely that shelf won't be called at all.

LOL, you did your best Stacie.
At this point, I think I'm going to start reading the series I want to read and forget about the shelves. I feel like I was in a groove with 3 series and now I'm all over the place, not enjoying what I'm reading. :(

Shelf 7: Demons
Book: The Undead Pool
How it fits: the shelf says 19 times as demons but the mpg says 162. Needless to say, it's got the tag :)

Sigh. Now I remember why this book has been sitting on my Kindle for years. Frankly, I am still mad at Kim Harrison for the events of book 5 and haven't gotten over them. However, Jenks is still awesome and while I don't care for the whole will they/won't they dynamic going on in this one, once again, the supporting cast really makes up for the BS that is Rachel Morgan. For a witch/demon/whatever she is, she is kind of a wuss. I'll probably still read #13 at some point. Probably when a challenge calls for it.
