R15: Team #17 ~ Napping Snipers

I finished the one for Debut author, went with

Week 3: Debut Author

Book: Under Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall
Pages: 330/GR
Date: 8/26/17
Rating: 4.5 stars
Review:
I'm not sure why I enjoyed this book so much, but I really did. It was interesting getting a glimpse into someone with such fears, some unreasonable. I think the story was portrayed well and it was well written.

Off to request the Debut Authors stamp, with an average rating for the team of 4.5 stars!! :)
And I complained so much about that shelf, hahahaha!!

ARRRRRRRGH!!!!!!

Done! That'll teach me not to request shelves just before leaving work. I usually double check everything but didn't notice that!

Book: Gunmetal Magic Ilona Andrews
How it fits: tagged action packed 7 times (on shelf)
Pages: 448/GR

I started like 5 books for this shelf and then stopped so now I'm taking a breather, reading a short book. Hopefully I can pick something as soon as I finish this one, sigh...

This seems to be a trend...I wonder if this is telling me that I should finally read

(I was saving that book for demons, so let's hope that's not next week's shelf, LOL!)

Shelf #4: action packed
Date finished/Rating: 9/3 ★★★
Review: This is the story of Sophie, a young woman who's transformed by an evil witch into an old lady. Not knowing what to do, Sophie leaves her home and bullies Howl - a supposed evil warlock - to let her live in his moving castle while she tries to find a way to regain her youth back.
I found the whole book confusing. I didn't understand why she would behave like a 90-year old - just because she looked like an old woman didn't mean that she was. Why was she afraid of Howl when she first met him? Which suit was he wearing? (I forgot what each one did.) Why was he so obsessed with women falling in love with him?
Maybe this was supposed to be funny? If so, I didn't get it.

Review: With this series, Ilona Andrews is firmly entrenched as my favorite author. Without giving any spoilers - there was more information about the house system, the different types of magic, Nevada's family as well as Nevada's relationship with Connor. Very quick read because it was very hard to put down.

Good Job!! :D

I'm working on my book for action packed. I had a bit of a setback in my reading due to some personal stuff but I'm getting there. It should be done before the call on Wednesday. I don't like to have things sitting out there for team challenges so it's my #1 priority book wise right now.

It could just be because I'm in a bad mood but I wasn't impressed with this one. Don't get me wrong, I still gave the book three stars but I probably could have been fine never reading it and still loving the series. I liked seeing Andi and Raphael's reunion but the mythology aspect of the story bored me to tears. I think this would have been a better novella than a full on novel. It never really held my attention and took me several tries to finally finish it. Disappointed.

Woohoo! Awesome!!!

I want something easy, like UF or Reader's Choice. It seems to me we've getting the more difficult shelves earlier!

Week 4: Action Packed

Book: Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson
Pages: 436/GR
Date: 9/6/17
Rating: 5 stars
Review:
I loved this story! I was captivated early on and wished I could've finished it faster, but at the same time the story seemed to fly by and was over before I knew it. Leah was a very likable character and I hated the circumstance in which she found herself. I am planning on starting Like a River Glorious tonight! :)

Also, I'll wait to request our new stamp when I get home later tonight - that way I don't miss anything, LOL!

I've had it on my tbr for a long time and am not sure what made me pick it up this weekend, but I'm sure glad I did! It does seem to have mixed reviews, but if the description sounds good to you I'd say give it a try. :)

Not Undead and Unpopular, right? That one seems to have the right number of pages.

I thought this was a good middle book for the trilogy, though now that I've finished it I really want to read the final book and that's going to be a while since it's not going to be released for over a month - sigh.
There was a minor mistake I noticed. (view spoiler) Not a big deal, but it was a little confusing and I had to check to see if I remember it correctly.
The ending was good, even though I definitely want to see how this trilogy will end.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Sigh. This series started out strong but the higher the series goes, the stupider and more annoying Betsy gets and the less happens. Seriously, I feel like I'm reading 300 pages that could be a novella if you take out all the whining and fluff. I think I like my vampires a lot less whiny and a bit more strong. Plus I'm really annoyed with the lack of action. I wish Chicagoland wasn't over, that was a good series. Also also, Betsy's stepmother needs to go away or be arrested for child abandonment or something. Eesh. Even Eric who was once likable is now really annoying. And yet, if I need another vampire book, I'll probably pick up #6...

Review: Vlad has always been one of my favorite characters in the Night Huntress world. Other vampires may be older, but you can't beat the original Dracula for drama. Leila tends to annoy me, but I felt for her at the dinner party at the beginning of the book and I think she's beginning to grow on me. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
