Finally finished a book for the first time in months, Kindred by Octavia E. Butler. The first science-fiction written by a black woman. And Octavia Butler didn't shy away from the tough stuff with this one - that's for sure. Her main character, a black woman married to a white man, time traveled (from the 70s) back to early 1800s Maryland (pre-Civil War). This was hard to read, especially given the state of things today. But I'm glad I read it. I'm taking an effort to read more diversely and this was really important to speculative fiction.
The upside, reading lots this month....the downside....not getting much stitching in lately. Hopefully my Stitchy Bug starts to return soon lol most of these books were quick reads that I really enjoyed. My fave books this month were The Mercedes Thompson novels, The Hate You Give, I Let You Go & I See You. I hope everyone is having a lovely summer of stitching and reading!!! :) Oh, also, how do I add the links to the books as opposed to typing out the names? As well as how to I "respond" with the copy of the quote? Ie. when Eden commented on my post. Please let me know. I feel silly asking.
Newest reads:
The Black Book by James Patterson & David Ellis
Private: Gold by James Patterson & Jassy MacKenzie
The Guilty by David Baldacci
Private Sydney by James Patterson & Kathryn Fox
Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh
I See You by Clare Mackintosh (almost done this)

I haven't found a way to respond on my phone, but on computers there is a little reply button under each comment and it automatically quotes the comment you're responding to :)
For adding the book and author links, I haven't done that on my phone either. On computers, right above the comment box there is and "add book/author' button. You click that, and search your book and/or author and add it to the comment :)

Thank you Eden!! I figured it was because I was trying to do it on my phone. I will use computer...next time ;-). I appreciate you confirming this for me.
Finished American Assassin. I have read other Flynn books, but never this one. I wanted to read it before the movie came out. LOVED IT!

Thank you Dana! I will look for those. The ones I had set aside are narrated by Jim Dale I think? I have the complete Sherlock Holmes collection narrated by Stephen Fry and he is awesome!

Last month, July, we read 42 books! That's quite a dip from the 62 in June, but still great. Will we continue to dip or will we rally? Only time will tell.
