Paul (goodreads_user) | 4 comments Read this around 10 years ago, although it could be longer. The details are hazy, but things I remember:

- there is a focus on the PoV of the robot servant. I believe it is blue in colour.
- the protagonist (strong belief it is a girl) has a female friend whose family is rather wealthy, and they have a similar robot. Their robot goes berserk and reprograms the house, so the walls move and nearly kill the friend.
- there is a mention of an older scientist, possibly head of the corporation that builds the robots, who arrives in a petrol car. This is a passage I remember because the author discusses how petrol engines essentially became obsolete with the advent of electric cars (new idea to me as a child)
- believe the author is female
- there is description of the rubber joints of the robot. Not sure why this one detail has stayed with me!
- possibility that the protagonist's father works for the company, but cannot be sure.
- iirc, the robot develops some level of self-awareness, and so is sought after?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thank you!

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments Sorry not to answer sooner. I forgot to set up notifications on this thread so I didn't realise it was solved.

*How did you find it so quickly?*
I recognised your description of the book as I remember reading it and enjoying it when it first came out! I love a good AI book.

Paul (goodreads_user) | 4 comments Thanks so much :) It's a book that has stayed with me since I was very young, and has helped make me into a huge nerd, so it'll be good to reread

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments I think it's the first of a trilogy but I never read the rest so I think I will reread it and finish the trilogy, too! :)
