need recommendations for Space Opera series

What's happening my peoples, first allow me to introduce myself, I'm Flako.

ok that's that

so I need some help guys. i read just about anything that truly catches my attention, but lately I'm in the mood for what I have found out is called space Opera. I read Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... and loved it but sftd wasn't for me.

so I'm looking for a series (stand-alone are ok too) that would catch my interest. something along the lines of Intergalactic battles different races of aliens a massive plot a massive world. basically what I'm looking for is anything similar to what a book about the mass effect series(amazing games) would be like

any help or recommendation would be greatly appreciated

The Pride of Chanur, Downbelow Station, Kesrith, The Final Reflection, Saturn Run, A Fire Upon the Deep, Startide Rising, and Rimrunners all come to mind.

'Saturn Run' is a "solar opera" story in our solar system only, but it is excellent.

R.M. Meluch, the "USS Merrimack" series. Little bit of Star Trek, little bit of Battlestar Galactica, little bit of Starship Troopers, and a huge chunk of I, Claudius.

Try this series. Alien races, huge battles, both on the ground and in space.

Not quite Space Opera in the traditional sense, but still loads of fun, I recommend the Space Captain Smith series by Toby Frost.

John Scalzi's Old Man's War series (4 books) and follow-ups The Human Division and new series starting with The Collapsing Empire.

The Sten series by Cole & Bunch. First one is Sten.

Peter F. Hamilton not many aliens but for massive plot and massive world you will be happy (and a lot of characters).
There is also Alastair Reynolds .

Good, old fashioned Space Opera that reads line a cross between Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Starship Troopers, and I, Cladius.

Along with those two I rate Ian M Banks to make up my 'big three' of modern Space Opera.

Basically, it's "Hornblower" IN SPACE! :-)

Neptune's Brood and Ancillary Justice are very good. Part of Accelerando is in space. It is long and challenging, but rewarding.

A Fire Upon the Deep certainly is long and challenging.

The Culture series by Iain M. Banks certainly is long. Consider Phlebas is the first one.

The Expense, starting with Leviathan Wakes, is long and good.

The first three Foundation novels by Asimov are fun. Rendezvous with Rama and Ringworld are also old times classics.

I would start with the Expense series first ( it contains 6 books and I hear that number 7 is coming out soon but it's one hell of a Space Opera, I don't know anybody who didn't like it!

And of course all books by the masters of hard core Space Operas, Alastair Reynolds and Peter F. Hamilton.
Actually start with Century Rain by Alastair Reynolds, that book got me addicted to Space Operas.

A fire upon the deep series is quite good. It's also got some interesting concepts in it. For instance, have you ever heard of a programmer archaeologist? In one of the books, this profession features prominently: it's people reviewing old code to either fix or figure out how it works. Which makes sense when you consider a space faring civilization with computers that have run for hundreds of years.
