I cheated and started last week. I have about 6 1/2 hours left. The first 2-3 hours were a little slow going but it has since picked up. There are some dream sequences and occasions where you are alone with the Narrator's (Mike's) thoughts that get a little too bogged down in my opinion but those aren't overly common thankfully.I was a little hesitant on this due the fact that it is narrated by King himself and while King is not the best Narrator I've experienced he is not nearly the worst and is doing a pretty good job at it. Much better than Jon Padgett did narrating The Secret of Ventriloquism back in May.
I'm enjoying it thus far. I will check out the mini-series after I'm done but I'm having a hell of a time trying to picture the lead as Pierce Brosnan it's just not happening.
King's voice is a bit nasally but he does that Maine accent as only he can. I've listened to this a few times now and it never loses its punch. I always feel ripped apart when I finish.Yeah, the tv adaptation was seriously miscast. I would say skip it. It was not good. None of the emotion evoked in the book was evident in the adaptation. It felt soul-less.
Thanks for the update Bark. I try to take in all of his shows/films so I'll still want to check it out. I really do recommend the Hulu rendition of 11/22/63 though I never read/finished the novel. I did however give up on Under the Dome during the 3rd season. I'm trying to watch the Mist as it airs but have been falling behind.And Dark Tower on Thursday night WOOT WOOT!!!
Ha, I am a sucker for these adaptations even when they're not good. I saw Under the Dome through to the very bitter and very terrible end! I don't have Hulu but will catch 11/22/63 at some point. I LOVED that book. I have The Mist DVR'd and plan to binge on some rainy weekend. Dark Tower is here already?!
It is indeed my fine fellow. (Sorry if Lady, Name and cat picture is ambiguous 🤗)I am excited and terrified the trailer makes the plot look so rushed. But Elba and McConnaghy look fantastic. But am also sad to not see Susannah and Eddie in a trailer.

Heehee! I read the DT books as they came out, now I'm reading them again via audiobooks and the graphic novels. It looks like they're hoping to do more movies if this one does well.
A lot of people are complaining about the length of both this movie and the new IT: The Gunslinger is too short and IT is too long. I won't let that bother me though, and I do plan on seeing both. I hope they don't suck.
Just finished. I was not let down. I was also pleasantly surprised by King's narrating. I feel I can now go back and do Wind Through a Keyhole, which I was kind of putting off since the other 7 books had such phenomenal narrators.Bummer I see we were relegated off the Group's front page. We need more participants in these :)

Yeah you were right I just finished it. And while it was better than The Dark Tower film it was not very good. They managed to make Mattie come off as a star fucker in the TV adaptation.
I tried to warn you :). I just read a review for the Mr. Mercedes adaptation and it sounds like they may have done a decent job. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Is that in theaters or on TV?

I am torn on the Dark Tower film- I have NOT seen it yet nor am I sure I WANT to-- those books were HUGE in my life, and so so good...I don't know if it can translate to film- especially if you have frigging MATTHEW MCCONAUGHY (sp) as The Man in Black??? WHAT? Um....no. Just no. Not good. Argh. I am not sure what to even do about this whole thing...none of the trailer looks like The Dark Tower to me at all- I mean, the filmmakers HAD ILLUSTRATIONS to go by for their cinematography! Why didn't they...*sigh* I will just get too 'riled up' if I go on. --Jen from Quebec :0)
The film is a garbage pail mash up of books 1-3 and 5. Just in case you would want to know what you're getting yourself into. Minus of course Susannah and Eddie Dean.
I will NEVER see that movie.

anyways, the book is finally starting to get spooky! I borrowed it from overdrive so I'm not sure what chapter i'm on. I'm on part 11 out of 20, if that helps. (view spoiler) I like hearing about Sara, I hope we learn more about her.

I finished the book today. all I knew about this before I began it was a writer's wife dies & he thinks his cabin is haunted. this one began so slow. I had even thought about swapping to something else but I'm glad I didn't!! that ending is rough. I really don't know how to rate this book. it was a hellva ride but man! that ending was brutal.
