Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments I'm just getting back into fantasy, and by that I mean that I took at least a 10 year break from reading it because I power read the first 9 books of Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" series. After that I was just put off of fantasy all together for a while and never read anyone else due to the burnout. A few points to let you in on:

1). The Title ---> If you know me, I'm awesome and anything I do is awesome, and well, I have no shame! :-D

2). I have ADD ---> This means that if I see a book that others like, the short blurb looks great, or the book has a shiny cover, I have to have it/read it. Because, lets face it, who doesn't like shiny new good stuff!?

3). BIG LIST ---> Niki's awesome and people like her 5 for 1 thing, but I just can't do it/understand it. So this is gonna be a big list of incomplete series. Why? See opening paragraph and point #2!

Last, but not least...

4). Recommendations ---> If you can judge what I like by what I've read or DNF'd (? doesn't seem right, but oh well) and have a GREAT title to match my reading style, please, by all means necessary, drop me a line and let me know about it. I'm really enjoying reading again because of this group and the people in it. So thanks again! Look forward to all of your comments!

**NOTE** If I get any recommendations for romantic fantasy (aka 50 Shades of Fantasy) I will find a flushing toilet moving picture post thingy, just for you! You've been warned! :-P

List incoming soon! If you hear a big boom, like a dictionary hitting a desk...That might be it!

DNF Series (Potential Awesomeness That Let Me Down)

Night Angel - The Way of Shadows I couldn't get past the abuse, it made me physically sick to my stomach.

The Wheel of Time - The Eye of the World This book put me to sleep, quickly. And I just couldn't bring myself to stay interested. After a third of the book, nothing happened, the flow was slower than drying paint. I just can't read it anymore.

Millenium's Rule - Thief's Magic This book was half romance which just isn't my thing, good story though if it works for you!

The Raven Duology - Raven's Shadow Once again, I tried a series that's more geared to a female audience and it just didn't work for me.

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments That is a pretty good list chris and some interesting title you want to read such as desert spear and stone of farewell as well as Dresden files (I've just finished the first book and got fool moon hahaha) so I hope to join you in some of those soon

As for your future ones furies of Calderon is a great book and the series is really interesting with the mixture of romans and Pokemon hope you read that soon and half a king while I thought it was okay I still need to continue the series soon so hope you enjoy that

If you want some recommendations I think I have some you might like

Malice by john gwyyne a great start to a series and while slow builds up to something great

Ready player one by Ernest cline- a mixture of virtual reality willy wonka and 80 pop culture it's an entertaining read

The blade itself by joe Abercrombie- since you have abercrombies other work you might be interested in this although it's much darker or should I say grimdark since it's filled anti heroes and people who are either damaged or unlucky and are just plain miserable....kinda like English weather

Riyria revelation by Michael J Sullivan- a book I will always recommend it's something that is worth a read a couple of times so just read it please

I was gonna recommend eye of the world but say you dnf it which is unfortunate but oh well

Also cool title hahaha

The awesomest title and categories ever!

Haha and don't worry about the 5 for 1 thing - it's mostly to slap a bandaid on the bleeding artery that is too many series open at once for some of us. The big master list is great!

Hey Ahdam! I will definitely take your recommendations to heart since I enjoy discovering other people's favorites for myself. I might not attempt then until the new year though because I've got about 20-30 books to read, including the ones read aloud to my 2 sons. Plus I have a major move coming in the next month or two. But since your comment is here, it will be a constant reminder for when I'm on the hunt for good title to explore, so thank you!

I just realized that I've read 2/4 of your suggestions!

I really like your organization. :)

I think it's cool how we're reading a bunch of the same series. When your BR schedule slows down a bit we'll have to read a few together. Looking forward to Unhewn Throne in a couple of weeks thought. :)

Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments Me too! December and January are pretty slow so nows your chance! February's a write off though! 😁

Oh, I thought you had like 80 in December lol. I'm game for the third Warded man whenever you get to that point.

I'm thinking of starting Tad Williams next spring, so maybe I'll catch up to that one if you haven't finished it by then. I'm also thinking of starting red queens war as well then. The library acquired the last two Age of Fire books by Knight, so I'll probably get to those before you have a chance to read them.

Hope you read Tad Williams but be warned your gonna need a lot of time to digest dragonbone chair and even then I don't think you will be prepared by the pure epicness this book has, I'm reading War of the flowers and I'm really enjoying it so far the author really knows how to make a setting so magical and breathtaking :) :) :)

That's a hell of an endorsement! I'm prepared to have it knock me out of my seat with awesomeness. :)

Well why don't you work on the books that I've read, and I'll work on the two that you've read. So, I'll do The Desert Spear and Dragon Champion, and you do Prince of Fools and something like Sea of Shadows over the next little while then we can buddy read 4 series in the coming year!

That way we can close out like 4 series!

Great idea. :) I'll work on those. I have things planned out through January pretty heavy, but I've been itching to get to more Kelley armstrong. I have the third otherworld book by her lined up for January.

I haven't started the Bitten series yet because I'd like to finish this trilogy first. Then I'll work on those. I really enjoyed the tv series that they did so I'm going to read the books now. Anne was telling me that she worked with the producers on the show for only a couple of episodes, then handed them the reins for story creativity. So, if you watched the tv series, it wouldn't give any of the story away because it's completely different.

Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments So, I'll read Desert Spear in December and Dragon Champion in January!

So yeah, I did that backwards, but it's half done now!

Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments Ok updated list, now to add one book (at least) to my monthly reads so I can close out some of these series!
