Shadow (shadowfrost13) | 4 comments I'm currently new to beta reading but would be thrilled to offer my services to you!

I am willing read almost any genre, fiction or non-fiction. Basically the only rule I have is nothing inappropriate (such as sex, crudeness, or language).

I'm happy to read anything; from novels to short stories, limericks to epics.

If you'd like to have me read your work, comment below with: 1) a short description and estimated length of your work, and 2) either your Goodreads profile or your email address (so I can respond!)

Electronic or paper copy, either is fine.

Rod Baker | 119 comments hi, would much appreciate you reading my manuscript before I send it to the printer. Non fiction. rodvbaker@gmail.com. brief blurb —

At 16 I got fed up with my job as a rag bailer and decided I wanted to see the world. As I was not independently rich, I applied to join the Merchant Navy and was accepted (they accepted everybody) into the National Sea Training School in Gloucestershire.

“All we knew was that after completing three months of training, we would somehow be magically transformed into world travellers. We would be able visit all the countries that lay against the wide oceans of the world. This vision was a powerful magnet. It sucked us from the lack of gravity at home into a new orbit of maritime adventure.”

Life in the Merchant Navy wasn’t like I thought it would be. But I did visit about twenty countries and it became the springboard to bounce me into my next adventure.

Juliette Godot (juliettegodot) Hi Jessy,

I wrote a 2 book historical series. The first is sort of a romance, the second is pretty dark, about revenge. The characters are my real ancestors. It is based in Renaissance France.

Both books are ~ 80,000 words.

I am really looking for readers for book 2. I can either send you the synopsis for book 1 to get you up to speed, or I can send you both books if you are interested in reading both.

Let me know if you are interested at janetpiper1 at gmail dot com.

Thank you.

Leslie Wibberley (feismom) | 19 comments Hello, I would love to have you read my manuscript.
I have been writing for years but only recently committed myself to actually finishing a novel. This is my first completed work. As a victim of childhood bullying myself, I am committed passionately to bringing my story to publication; to show
children that they have the power to change their own stories. I am looking for any feedback to help make this story as good as it can be.

My main character is a smart and sassy, fiddle playing, grade seven student; full of humor and strength. This literary work of magical realism is complete at 49,000 words.

THE INDIGO RAT DIARIES, is the story of Anastasia Anatole, an Indigo rat with beautiful blue fur. She has a pet ladybug named ‘Fluffy’, a passion for Celtic fiddle music, and is completely obsessed with the color blue. She and her family have moved to a new city. As the start of the new school year draws near, her mom and dad share some interesting, and perhaps even disturbing, news with her. Unlike her old neighborhood, which was rich with rats of every color, this new one has no Indigo rats at all.

Anastasia’s not immediately concerned; back home she had friends with fur of many different colors, and not many of them Indigo. Her parents raised her to look beyond the color of a rat’s fur. But before the school year starts, Anastasia must learn the unfortunate truth, her family will likely face discrimination because of the color of their fur.

She’s initially angry with her parents for moving her to this new neighborhood, but later resolves to try and change everyone’s attitude regarding Indigo rats. She faces many challenges as she sets out to do so; especially in the form of one particularly rude and intolerant rat, Leroy Leopold, who seems determined to make her life
difficult.

Will her quirky sense of humor and passion for music be enough to finally bring an end to the incessant bullying by her nemesis?

THE INDIGO RAT DIARIES: ANASTASIA THE BLUE follows a determined and strong-willed rat’s journey as she discovers, that in order to change others’ attitudes, she must first change her own.

Andrea Churchill | 34 comments Hi, my name is Andrea. My book is called Ilere of the Woods, it has a 43500 word count.

Lerewood is a small, isolated town set in the middle of a haunted wood, in which a legendary creature resides. Though the townspeople suffer from starvation and live in a society that resembles a pack of animals rather than civilization, the town never seems to die off. Legends say the town is cursed never to see the outside world, if one even existed, and the creature keeps them isolated by killing anyone who tries to escape. No one from Lerewood has ever seen another town or a person from another land. Anyone who enters the forest never comes out.
One man, depressed and tired of his pain and abuse from his monstrous wife, decides to commit suicide by entering the wood. He deliberately searches for the creature, only to realize she isn't as evil as everyone thought.

Elizabeth | 8 comments Hi Jessy! I just finished editing a first draft of a YA fantasy and I could really use someone else to take a look at it! There is a little description and my email address below so send me a message if you are interested! Thanks :)
-Elizabeth

For 20 years magic has been hated in the isolated town of Lakeside as a plague that has finally been extinguished. One day though, after magic was long thought dead, a stranger appears in the form of a girl in the woods in an enchanted sleep. When she finally wakes she remembers nothing but what she thinks is her name-‘Nema’. She spends a quiet year building a life for herself in Lakeside and trying to ignore what she believes to have been a traumatic past even as it haunts her dreams. However, when the residual effects of a curse threaten to destroy everyone she has come to love, 21 year old Nema is forced to embark on a classic fairytale style quest to break the curse and confront the past she can’t remember. As she follows her quest she is led out of her small province into the nearby, larger kingdom of Pax, home of the recently deceased and highly unpopular Queen Elina. When she sets out to break the curse she believes the only thing she isn’t prepared for is failure but it is her success that sets off an unpredicted chain of events. When the lives of hundreds are threatened Nema must team up with a rag-tag band of unlikely allies including, the ‘evil-queen’, the ‘chosen one’ and a maverick tavern owner, in an attempt to save the kingdom and right the wrongs of the past.

Jessica Suphan | 15 comments Hello!

It's really nice of you to offer your services like this, thank you Jessy! My novella is 33,000 words, and while the plot is psychological the story takes place in a dystopia.

Government agent Daniel 305 has for years dealt with a mantra of 'perfect world perfect world perfect world' meandering through his head, but always ignored it in favor of working, raising his younger sister, and worshiping their heaven-sent immortal leader The Father. Now at nineteen, it's becoming more frequent and powerful, causing blackouts and worry. Taken to see The Father, Daniel 305 learns that not only is their god a mortal man, but that he himself is going to become The Father.

Shown the memories of the first Father that explain everything, the young man witnesses his manta's birth; and a few memories later, watches it drive the original Father insane. Duty demands that obedient Daniel 305 become The Father and lie to the country he loves, but can he do it and keep his sanity? To him there is no choice but to become The Father and take care of everyone, so shall Daniel 305 rule the country and go insane, or win the fight for his sanity?

Please email me at alittlebitofeverything824@gmail.com if you're interested!

William Jr. | 16 comments Jessy,

I have a new novel that I'm working on. It is only about 9k words presently. The title is Blood Warrior: Timber Wolf. It is about a 17th century wolf pack trying to survive in what is now Yellowstone Park. THIS IS NOT WEREWOLVES. It's a similar style as Watership Down.

If you would have an interest in critiquing it, please email me at bridgetexas@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Bill

Steven Freeman | 57 comments Hi Jessy,

I am three days away from putting the finishing touches on a 70k-word romantic thriller, “The Devil’s Due.” In this story, former soldiers Alton Blackwell and Mallory Wilson are pulled back to Afghanistan to rescue a teenage friend whose Al-Qaeda uncle has nefarious plans for her. As they race to recover the teen, they battle not only Al-Qaeda terrorists but also resurgent cult and a web of intrigue in which the label of friend and foe is not easily assigned.

Would you be interested in reading this work? If so, kindly send me a personal message, and I will be happy to send you the manuscript on Thursday or Friday (Sept 4 or 5). Please let me know if you'd rather have PDF instead of Word. Also, kindly let me know to what email address I should send the file.

This work is the fifth in a series. I have written it as a standalone work, and I'm particularly interested in seeing if it works well for those who have not read any of the previous novels.

To see if my writing style is your cup of tea, below are the first four volumes in the series:
Nefarious
Ruthless
T Wave
Havoc

Thanks,

Steven F. Freeman

Kelly Mitchell | 9 comments Jessy, Awesome. Really appreciate beta readers. Here's my hook -

Thank you for looking at this query for Wildcard, SFF, 110,000 words, completed.
When the Benefactor’s team created the 1st Manufactured Entity, they named it Wildcard, but didn’t know how to talk to it. Wildcard, through vastly faster processing time, spent 100,000 years alone. When they figured out how to talk, he was gone. Three more M-E’s were created - Juniper, who studies and manipulates human power systems, :3:, master of science and mathematics but eschews human language, and Dartagnan, who strives to master arts and letters, to be human. Their world is Information Space, but Wildcard seems to have created his own universe connected to that. Unfortunately, Wildcard has a serious problem - during his time alone, his human-made part went slowly insane. His self-arisen part - his true awareness - is locked in perpetual struggle to hold the mad part back, lest it destroy the human domain. He is losing. Two genetically engineered humans must help him to heal. Martha, engineered for a deeply twisted purpose by the Benefactor, and Karl, her abandoned son, engineered as an Empath. These two innocent pawns are the key. Everyone wants them for a different reason.
A sequel (The Song of Solomon) is also complete.
My latest published book is Gold Wars: The Battle for the Global Economy - signed on by 3 foreign publishers in translation, including Chinese. I earned a finalist spot in the 2007 Faulkner/Wisdom creative writing competition and a B.A. in Literature from UT, Austin.

Yvette Calleiro (yvettemcalleiro) | 19 comments Hi, Jessy!

I've just finished writing The One Enlightened, book two of the Chronicles of the Diasodz series. It has 142K words.

It begins where Sofia is taken to the world of the Diasodz to be trained in their ways since she has been prophesied to become the savior of their kind. I am willing to give you book 1 for free if you want to have the background knowledge of the story (book 1 has 77K words), but I don't think you must read it to understand what is happening in book two.

I'm looking for betas who are not afraid to really scrutinize and tear it apart to help make it better. I'm looking more for character development, plot analysis, and writing style tips, but if you find grammatical or spelling errors, by all means, share those as well! ;-)

Your help is VERY appreciated! I look forward to hearing from you. :-) My email address is calleirobooks@aol.com.

C.C. Faye (ccfaye) | 8 comments Hi Jessy,
My novel, SPIRAL DROPS OF SILVER, is already completed, but I would like to only review Chapters 1-7 of my novel.

After General McSchvi Air has founded the most perfect, godlike island that would be invulnerable to any kind of global disasters, known as Whelm Island, it is said to be the Island of Perfection.
But for 19 year old, Silver Geary, who foresaw a gigantic tsunami coming to destroy the island, he must save the people who hated him as the Farmer's cursed son.
Swallowed by a horrible and horrendous past, Silver must climb out of his way to forget the mysterious powers unraveling inside him.
And that's when he met this girl--Lyric Lewon, yearning to kill him with her own hands for pleasure and vanity.

I would like to review if the starting point of the book was good, interesting or bad. I would really like truthful comments about my writing style, the story progress or the overflow of the story.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Please email me at ccfaye@live.com
