This volume contains somewhat abridged selections from Herodotus, translated by Glanville Downey for teens back in the mid 1960s. The excerpts are on three topics, Croesus, Darius and the second invasion of Greece (by the Persians). Over time, Herodotus has proved to be very accurate with things he actually saw himself, but when he relied on others for numbers (such as the size of the Persian army), then he was rather off. I didn't love it, but I think it's solid for teens to start off on Herodotus this way.
