No Name | 46 comments Thanks Emma. Can a book be reviewed before you begin that round? Say we are in round one but I finish mine can I go straight into round 2 or do I have to wait for that month?

message 52: by Paul (new)

Paul Lawrence (paullawrencebooks) | 14 comments Emma, do we have to read the books in the order you gave them? Or are we only required to complete the review by the date specified?

message 53: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments You can review at any speed you like, and in any order you like, as long as you finish by the end date of the group.
However, the round mod will give you a reminder if you are falling behind.

For example, some people have more time on their hands and finish all their reading and reviews in a couple of weeks, others need the full 12 week period to finish.

I hope that explains things.

I'll hang around to answer questions until your round mod, Kathy, puts in an appearance, but after that, she's your gal as I'll be off to set up some more groups.

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Hi, folks, I'll be modding this group from here on out - thanks, Emma.

Feel free to start book exchange, but remember to do so by PM and don't post your email in the thread for bots to pick up.

When you've done a review, post your Goodreads, Amazon, and Amazon UK links TO THE REVIEW (not the book page) and I'll check you off as done on that one.

When I review a book, I do it on my blog. That gets posted to Facebook and Twitter. Then I copy it to Amazon and Goodreads, so it will be exactly the same in every place. I added both Amazon links to my previous post.

Augustine Sam (augustinesam) | 66 comments Is John Brackenridge still part of the group? He must know he hasn't sent his book to me. He doesn't respond to my messages and I don't know how to get hold of him. K. A., please can you advise?

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Kathy is having trouble accessing the group right now, so I'll be poking my head in to help till she gets her internet issues sorted out.

Move on to your next book while we wait for John to find us again.
I'll see what I can do to hunt him down.

Edit - I've found his profile on Facebook and sent a message.

message 68: by John (new)

John Brackenridge Everyone - I can only apologise for my absence. Phone issues and work. I'll get involved ASAP.

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Hi, folks - I am so, so sorry I haven't been around. I'm afraid it will be a couple more days until I have reliable Internet access. I'm currently on a library wi-fi, but I can't get here every day. My Internet provider, who shall not be named (*cough*CenturyLink*cough*) can't seem to figure out the issue, although they did manage to sell me a -useless- new modem for $$$. I note that it's not my computer's issue as I'm doing fine on public wi-fi. Hmph.

Anyway, I will update who's done who today and hopefully be back full-time Monday. How much we all depend on our Internet these days! Well - one good thing is, I finally got a library card!

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments I'M BACK! Well, kind of. After 10 days, CenturyLink finally admitted that there was an issue with the line in to the neighborhood, and they have restored service at about 25% of what I'm paying for. At least it's enough to get to Goodreads!

Thanks, Augustine, Annabelle, and Shashane! And thanks to Emma for checking in on y'all while I was out of commission...

message 80: by Effie (new)

Effie Kammenou (effiekammenou) | 41 comments It seems like the more we pay the worse the service gets these days!

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments I swear. Whatever happened to good service?

message 86: by Dave (new)

Dave Saari | 157 comments This concludes my work for the round. I'm starting to feel like a real curmudgeon with all this carping about typos.

message 87: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Thanks, Dave! Nice work - and I agree with you about typos. Every book has a few, but there shouldn't be enough that they distract from the flow of the story. These are supposed to be ready-for-prime-time books, not drafts. I'm especially picky when they're typos that could have been picked up easily by a simple spellcheck or grammar check. Besides - if authors know there are significant typos, they can go back and fix things.

message 88: by Paul (new)

Paul Lawrence (paullawrencebooks) | 14 comments When I review a book, I let the author know about typos. I would want to know. In fact, one reviewer pointed out a typo to me, and my book was professionally edited as well as proofread by me repeatedly. They are so easy to do and even easier to overlook.

message 89: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1702 comments Yes, I think every book I've read of whatever publication type has a few. The issue is when they are pervasive enough to detract from the reading experience. When I regained the rights to my first series from the original publisher, I re-edited them and found a number of typos, even though they, too, had been professionally edited. It does happen, but shouldn't happen with regularity or in cases where it could be caught easily with a final spellcheck.

message 90: by Annabelle (new)

Annabelle Costa | 42 comments I once paid $300 to have a book "professionally" edited and they left about 50 typos. I wish someone had pointed it out to me early on. I fixed the issue, but not before it earned me a bunch of bad reviews.

message 91: by Paul (new)

Paul Lawrence (paullawrencebooks) | 14 comments I use Grammarly now. It's good at catching words that are out of place or phraseology that seems odd.

Now that I have written it, I sort of feel bad that I mentioned the comma thing. Like I said, I've noticed commas used wrong in other British books too. I'm not crazy grammar lady, I swear.

message 98: by Paul (new)

Paul Lawrence (paullawrencebooks) | 14 comments I tend to gloss over things like that, because it might be something the British do that I'm unfamiliar with. I'm pretty sure Diane will forgive you. :-)

message 99: by Annabelle (new)

Annabelle Costa | 42 comments Yeah, but do we have different comma rules in the US than in the U.K.?
