Liz (liz_the_librarian) The Summer Reading Program has officially started, and if you haven't already, you should definitely sign up for it! Get double points this summer, as you can count any book you read for both the 52 Book Pickup and Summer Reading!

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

I finished my action/adventure book last week, Battle Royale. It's not the most intellectually stimulating book, and I think some things may have been lost in translation, but it was still a thrilling story. I thought 600 pages of Japanese school kids trying to kill one another might get repetitive and boring, but it was a quick, fun read. Warning: Do not read this book if you are squeamish or don't like violence. This book is often compared to The Hunger Games (for good reason), but where the violence in The Hunger Games is more to make a chilling point, the violence in Battle Royale is more akin to the gore and carnage you'd expect from a pulpy B movie.

I inadvertently chose another adventure book as my audiobook selection of the week. Off to Be the Wizard is a wonderfully light-hearted, humorous tale about a young man who discovers that the world is really just a part of a huge computer program. Once he learns he can edit the program, he sets off to become the greatest "wizard" known to mankind. Very fresh and contemporary, this is the perfect choice for someone who likes computers, Harry Potter and Medieval times.

What are you reading this week?

Katie Walton (libraryladykatie) | 16 comments I'm listening to the new Ransom Riggs book Hollow City. It starts slow but is finally picking up steam. I'm also reading Ink which is about an American girl living in Japan and an artistic bad boy she becomes obsessed with and also some weird possibly sentient ink. So far it is kind of weird but good.

Just added Off to Be the Wizard to my to-read list.

I'm reading Bookplate Special by Lorna Barrett. This is book is part of the Booktown Mystery series that I have been reading over the last few weeks. In this installment of the series Tricia finds her former college roommate suffocated to death in the trash bin behind her sister's new restaurant.

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments Spandau Phoenix was my action/adventure book, which I finished and liked. I also read The Quiet Game, also by Greg Iles, which I think I liked more. It is the first book in his series about Penn Cage, a lawyer/writer from Natchez, Mississippi.
I also read 1st to Die, this month's book for the book club. I enjoyed it, there were a couple of plot twists that I did not see coming (although I did figure one of them out). It made me want to read more of the series.
I finished The Selection series, with the last book The One. It did a good job of tying up the main storylines. This would make a good movie series.

Angela Malerman (angelamal) | 41 comments Oh, just realized I missed last weeks posting! The kids being out of school totally threw off my book registering time! I miss my quiet days.

I decided I wanted to read Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta series again from the beginning so I started with Postmortem on Sunday and finished that on Monday, so today I started Body of Evidence. I also got Mr. Mercedes in the mail today so I may have to break from Cornwell to dig into that... we shall see.

Kyra Hay | 41 comments I'm reading The Shining this week! It's very good so far!

Meredith | 6 comments I'm reading _Of Bees and Mist_ by Erick Setiwan. It started off slow, but I'm glad I stuck with it. I can't put it down now.

Liz (liz_the_librarian) I just reread The Fault in Our Stars because I want to go see the movie. Just as sad as I remembered it, but still a good book.

Off to Be the Wizard was a wonderful book. It wasn't particularly literary or anything, but it was super entertaining and nerdy. I actually bought the second one because I didn't want to wait for my next token through audible to become available.

I also picked up Wonder on CD yesterday at work. I've heard really great things so I'm excited to listen to it.

I placed a hold on The Fault in Our Stars a while ago. It will probably take forever for me to get it from the library.

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments I am listening to Halo on CD. It's a twist on the whole vampire thing because it's an angel & a human.
Reading The 100 to the children (from the tv series) & also reading a Maya Banks book that is mindless since this is our crazy week of kids camps.
