Ellen | 3507 comments Wow. I am not going to review this because I honestly did not understand it at all. Obviously I missed the point. Missing cat - prostitute with e.s.p. - teen girl counting bald heads - climbing into a well for some alone time - some interesting war stories - sketchy wife. I don't get it.

This novel won the Japan-US Friendship Commission Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature

I guess this is proof that we all have different tastes, huh?

Ha ha, oh dear. This has been on my TBR forever. I keep putting Murakami off because I'm so afraid I'll be in your camp. "I don't get it" is never the way I like to kick off a review, but I've definitely come across a few like that!

Diane Zwang | 485 comments Oh, sadness. This was one of my favorites.

Jen | 1545 comments One of my all time favorite books. Always makes me sad when people hate it but I definitely understand that he's not for everyone.

Anita - you just have to take the plunge and try him one day. I'd start with Norwegian Wood or Colorless... they are not so quirky -no magical realism
