Wow, I hope it gets found. I want to read this too. (And can't believe that I hadn't already read it.)
One of the crew (all are human) is a woman telepath healer who helps people with their damaged psyches and there are only a few in the empire/federation, etc. The only problem is that the healers end up going mad because all the grief, pain, horrors, etc. that others have seen and the healers experience first hand in their treatments of others. She is also the step-daughter of the captain of the ship that crashed landed. I think the federation, whatever, is at war with another group.
This single human male who has grown up on this planet finds her when she is lost in her own mind and brings her out of her madness which no one thought was possible once it occurred. They fall in love.
The male inhabitant is on his own quest to be the acknowledged leader of all species on the planet. He must defeat the leader of the sea monster type snakes in battle to accomplish this. He is guided telepathically by a dying evolved race in this because the planet is nearing a time of great hibernation and mutation. Once this happens there will be great storms on the surface of the planet and it will seem like there is no life on the planet but have a long time the planet will be reborn but if not all the species are united under one person at this time there will be greater and greater rifts between the species and it will be detrimental to the species the planet and the planet's own self awareness. He wants his lover with him so they can start a new life together after this hibernation and transformation.
She's got a limited time until the planet goes into hibernation--if she isn't there at that time she can't be part of the process--and she doesn't know when she might go mad. He won't be with her in space to clear her mind again. But she is also a healer who feels compelled to help her people; it is part of who she is. To abandon her people while they are fighting is almost like being a traitor. But she must decide what her path will be because the crew will be leaving the planet soon.
Little Spoiler
Her step-father who loves her and both is honored by her incredible gifts but also hates that she suffers because of it calls her selfish to think of abandoning her position to be with her lover when by doing so there will be so many who will suffer without her help.
When she decides to go with the crew for a little while but return to be with her lover just before the planet goes into hibernation her lover warns her step-father not to tell anyone of the secrets on this planet and if he doesn't return her in time the planet will seek its own revenge against the captain because she is now claimed by the planet (not that he's some sort of embodiment of the planet's consciousness).
