Shell | 12 comments Her brother or uncle? has made them serverly in debt and to save herself and the family she needs to marry a man about to be hanged. After they get married she discovers that he's innocent and it's a case if mistaken identity. He's is actually the son of an earl or duke? He looks like the real criminal, a notorious highwayman. She saves him from death, and then they return to his estranged family, can't remember what happens after that. The hanging is only about halfway through the book. I read the book about 2yrs ago, downloaded as an ebook from mobile 9 for an iPad. I'm pretty sure the author has written other books, but for the life of me l can't remember!

Shell | 12 comments The debt some how is in her name, do once she marries him she becomes his property! Lol, n the debt will be wiped once he dies. She faces debtors prison otherwise

Ok, weird that the debt is in her name. Back in those days (i.e. anything before about 1895 or so) women didn't own property, so it was difficult to have a debt be in their name. However, because of this issue--I have GOT to read this when it is found.

Shell | 12 comments I know, I found that weird too! I'm looking everywhere for myself n my sister, it's become an obsession! If only I could remember, but I've read so many books since

Cruth | 85 comments How about The Marriage Debt by Louise Allen?
"Marrying a highwayman awaiting execution is Katherine Cunningham's only hope - for that way her debts will die with him. But it turns out that her husband, Nicholas Lydgate, is innocent - and the son of a duke! Katherine is determined to save his life, as she is attracted to Nicholas, but she won't hold him to a union until he shows he cares for her..." http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marriage-Debt...
