Children's short stories. Panda and grasshopper? Panda at a circus. Read in 1990s.

When I was in headstart in the 90s I taught myself to read using a book of short stories alternating between a panda and I think a grasshopper. All I can remember is that and there was a story about the panda at a circus in there somewhere. I don't know whatever happened to my copy of this as I grew up, but now that I have kids of my own, I'd really like to get a new one... If only I could figure out the name of it.

Were the illustrations colorful, realistic, full page, etc?

Still looking! The illustrations were vivid and maybe a little cartoony. Full page with text at the top or bottom I believe. The only thing I remember about the cover is that it was almost like a vinyl material. I remember liking the feel of it.

I think it was upbeat. I want to say it was moralistic stories.

Yeah. This was a bunch of short stories alternating between a panda and a grasshopper. A bit strange actually. Lol The circus one was just one of them.
