Amazing book, cried all the way through the last chapter.
I loved it too! I wanted to go on and on, but that wouldn't have been the right resolution to the plot. I think that the neighbors took over his wife' s ability to look beyond his gruff, unpolished and taciturn exterior and find a lot to love about him. He, in turn, was able to learn to love people who were as fallible and different as he was. If I was making a movie of this, I would envision the voice of God telling his wife, "I know you weren't finished, but I have sent some people to finish for you. They will love and be loved by him.
