ABANDONED. Mystery - Mother and child at a set of cabins, ending in the lake.

Hi, all. Looking for a book I read back in the 90's. It's a murder mystery. A single mother (I believe she was. Can't remember if the father died, they were divorced or if he was just not there) and son were visiting a set of cabins. A murder happened and I recall that the mother was either trying to investigate or she was just roped into it...not sure.

I remember one line in it. One of the visitors told her it was good for ger son to be outside so he coukd get some sun. The mother was trying to get the child back in. I remember that line because I was wondering why was it especially good to be in the sun and that's when I learned about the vitamins the sun provides. I was in Jr. High School.

Oh, and there was a lake. The ending took place in the lake with the mother and the murderer and maybe someone else in the boat.

Who was murdered - another visitor at the cabins, a person working there, someone the heroine already knew, male/female, multiple murder victims, etc.?

What's the tone - adult or young adult (teen), suspense/thriller, scary, mystery, no romance, etc.?

Location - U.S./country, region?

I believe it was set in the 50's or 60's, maybe. The son was under 10 years old. Maybe 6? The murders were visitors at the cabin and people that worked there. It's an adult book. Suspense/Mystery. I think the mother and a guy that either worked at the cabin or was staying at the cabin had feelings for each other, well at least implied. Sorry, I can't remember the rest.
