Briana Yeah, why does Piper get a lot of hate? I think she is a great character. Go Jason and Piper.<3

um... Maybe it's because even when Jason was in the Roman Camp, he had never had feelings for Reyna? They did become co-Praetors and stuff but I recall that Jason only thinks of Reyna as a friend since then. So I don't think Piper is to blame for that.

Briana You are very right.Piper should not have to be the blame for that.

message 54: by Ananth (new)

Ananth I find it weird that you can fall in love in eight months. No, don't tell me shit about middle or high school because all of that "couples" is crap.

Parker Gosh, some people get married after two months of dating! Eight months is a long time compared to some. And really, it's now like they've vowed to be together forever- they could break up at any time. How long do you want them to know each other? Not everyone can be Annabeth and Percy, you know.

Amphitrite Piper isn't that bad but she isn't one of my favorite characters. She is cool though but her charm speak is kind of confusing and that whole drama to save her dad was a waste of time although I'm glad she saved him. I don't like her dagger either because all it does it worry her and make her panic about the bad clips that are supposed to happen in the future

Shut Up, I'm Reading. I really do like Piper. But I can see why some people don't like her. To tell you the truth she isn't as impressive as other female leads.

message 58: by Ananth (new)

Ananth It seems like all of you must have married?

Or if you are marrying, please tell me when your wedding is so that I can attend it!

Briana I think that if they really do like each other then they should date.

message 60: by Ray (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ray The only thing I know about Piper is that she loves Jason. It's like her whole identity revolves around that. Kind of sad...

Rick has been trying for too much romance in this series and he's overdone it a lot. Taken away from the enjoyment a bit with that. And i was thinking this before it was decided that Nico had a random Percy crush. I'm just confused now.

P.S. I'm also one of those guys who likes it when 5 different girls like the Mc so I wasn't all that happy when Calypso was brought back into the story just to switch over to Leo :(

message 61: by Ray (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ray Piper's identity is focused too much on Jason. If her every thought wasn't Jason-oriented, I might be able to care more about her. And Jason is struggling to keep us interested in his character as well so her Jason obsession isn't helping her.

I mean, probably cuz she thinks so high of Jason. NOT because she hates Percy or thinks of him as this dumb, weak guy, but because Jason is her boyfriend. Of COURSE she's gonna like Jason some more than Percy. I mean, that would be weird if she thought Percy was a lot better than Jason. It wouldn't make any sense.
I think Piper is a very strong, and honest character. Sure she has her flaws, but everyone does, characters would be dull without em.

Can I just take a moment of your time to say you all most of you made very good points.
And that it's impossible for everyone to hate/love one character and that this is all good as long as ideas from both sides are shared and there is minimal bashing.
Can I just say I'm really thankful for all the eye-openers here.

And can I just say, miss, that these 20 reasons are really, really precious to me now.

I don't think I can say anything y'all haven't said yet, but in summary, I just think Piper is realistic. Valid insecurities, opinions she doesn't change for others, friendliness, knowing who she is and what she wants, and all that jazz... I love her for it.

She can sound annoying about Jason and Percy, but as mentioned, she never intended to hurt Reyna. Plus, she doesn't know Percy like we do and she doesn't see things the way we saw them. She just knows what she knows, and she acts--rather appropriately for normal people-- in my opinion. All characters have flaws, and I think it's unfair to think that how she "sounds annoying, acts selfishly, and fights weakly" isn't accepted like all the other flaws.

I fully believe that if one person can improve on all the negative things called out on her, it's Piper. Or at least, if one person could try their absolute hardest to be better than what people degrade her to be.

nekku No, believe me, I'm screaming.
This is just my fingers being ashamed of the rest of me and typing calmly.
What is this?
More importantly, how many friendship fics of these two should I start reading?

Amaldo Firjarahadi Tane Maybe Piper is bashful person, observed when Piper scenes all of The Heroes of Olympus series. And then, Piper just always used her Charmspeak when her and her friends in harmful situations. And it's my opinion.

Sorry if I too late comment :D

Piper has her pros and cons but I don't think people should treat towards her so strongly. yes, Piper can be dramatic at times but that might just be Aphrodite acting up or her blessing acting up. I think its just part of who she is daughter of Aphrodite and all. In my opinion, she might not be your fav but she's plenty strong and plenty awesome! She is actually quite nice, just the Aphrodite thing might give people the girly-girl feeling towards Piper. THE END. Sorry that it's so long. : )

Piper has been my favorite character ever since Lost Hero :D I don't get her hate, she is an amazing character! And we have the same name XD

Bad writing

message 71: by Katya (new)

Katya Schwarz I have nothing wrong with her personally, but I think people are angry because they think Jason should be paired with Reyna because they knew each other for much longer, like people who hate Rachel because she 'interrupted' Percy and Annabeth's romance. It is shown in the books that both Rachel and Piper acknowledged that the other girl's were not happy about it. I think that Rick Riordan is trying to show us the setting with both scenarios. Some people also think that her character is not developed enough, but seeing as there are seven main characters it's going to be pretty hard. The only ones in the seven that are fully developed by the end, in my opinion, are Percy and Annabeth, seeing as they already had a series.

message 72: by Katya (new)

Katya Schwarz I'm pretty sure some people don't like her as much as the rest as the seven because (excluding Annabeth) they are all unique. Percy is the only known living child of Poseidon, Jason can fly, Hazel can summon jewels (while Nico can't), Leo is a fire-user and Frank can turn into animals. Piper, however, is just a normal child of Aphrodite (which, by the way, doesn't make her 'weak' or anything like that. I'd like to see some Piper-haters do the sort of things that she did.), although she can charmspeak, so can Drew. I think this makes some people unfairly compare her to Drew, who is totally the other end of the spectrum for Aphrodite kids.

message 73: by Anton (last edited Jul 10, 2015 12:04PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anton I don't like Piper because she is a hypocrite.

I hate how she says she tries not to be a stereotypical Aphrodite girl, when she's only on the quest for Jason and seems to think about him 24/7. She doesn't even have a reason to worry too much about him, unlike Percy & Annabeth do for each other.

The fact they are dating is also pretty stupid because 75% of their memories together were fake.

I just wish Piper embraced that she was a Daughter of Aphrodite, then honed her fighting skills so that people wouldn't think she was just some dome Aphrodite spawn.

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

When it finally looked like the readers were going to get a competent Aphrodite child, Piper kind of failed in that regard by being almost as shallow as her cabin. That's really too bad since every other Aphrodite kid is either a traitor (Silena), a bully (Drew), or a cheerleader (the rest of the Aphrodite cabin).

The good news is that the Romans gave us Michael Kahale, who is a son of Venus and knows how to fight.

Anton The thing about the Romans is that they taught everyone how to fight, whether you were a son of Jupiter, Mercury or Venus. That is one of the reasons why Rome was so great, they judged you based on merit, not parentage. The Greeks by contrast would tell the children of Aphrodite, Demeter and the minor gods to go away while the other campers actually fight.

Someone wrote earlier that bashing on a character is like bashing on the book. Don't hate me, but I am bashing on the book. I didn't read the last to chapters of House of Hades due to my utter boredom and discontent. I place the blame on Piper and Jason. In my eyes, Jason is a bigger issue than Piper. Without comparing him to Percy, he has many issues. Up until HoH, I found his character to be powerful, but bland and he was not a great friend. Sure his romance with Piper helped a little bit, but unlike with Percabeth and even Hazel and Frank, they didn't need to be together. Their relationship could end and I wouldn't shed a tear. Jason hardly seems committed to the relationship and his half-hearted devotion to Piper makes me hate him. In contrast, Piper obsesses over Jason, talking about how unimpressive Percy is by comparison (Why she compares the two is still a wonder to me. Percy aided in one battle and Jason aided in another, but other characters were also important and Jason had no 'age 16' prophecy.) There flawed relationship was a fail on Riordan's part and it made the series unbearable. I read The Lost Hero and The Son of Neptune ten times each, but once I hit The Mark of Athena, my interest and dedication to the series dimmed (thanks for that Piper and Jason). By Blood of Olympus, I was waiting for it to end. Piper herself is not a bad character, but her relationship and odd thoughts make me despise her. Why does she like Jason in the first place?

Briana Hmm good review personally I dont see anything wrong with as Piper I think she is a great character sure sometimes when it comes to her its all about Jason ( hey she fell for him) but she has her fair share of surprises. Shes not my favorite character but she's a good one. ^_^

Briana Oh and bashing on a character is definitely not like bashing the book everyone has their own opinions, whoever said that.

message 80: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm neutral about Piper. Don't like her but don't hate her either.

Anton People don't like Piper because she acts too much like a regular teenage girl. Plus she looks extremely feminine and immature compared to Annabeth, Reyna and Hazel.

Triisha Casey wrote: "I used to love Piper, but I do think her romance has turned her into a semi annoying character. She got better in HoH but during MoA she drove me up the walls. Especially because she over dramatize..."

I completely agree, and the reason I think people like Percy and Annabeth together so much is that they recognize (and love) the flaws in each other. You can tell from their nicknames, Seaweed Brain/Kelp Face and Wise Girl that they are cutely affectionate for each other, but Annabeth knows that Percy isn't the smartest, but loves that he tries, and appreciates/accepts his "fatal flaw" of loyalty and Percy accepts her flaw of hubris.

I think even Jason knows that Piper has flaws, but she doesn't think he has any and somewhat idolizes him. If you asked her, Jason is better than Percy, but if you asked Jason, he would probably think of them equally. Piper also just has boring powers. They are useful, but I think Silena Beauregard was a more interesting daughter of Aphrodite than she is. She doesn't have to practice charmspeak to be good at it, which doesn't leave room for potential possibilities.

Garima I think she's a Mary-Sue. I think her character is kind of boring and that she lacks any real personality (I think this about Jason too). Besides irritating me, she doesn't have a real flaw (I don't think any of the new characters do). That's what I loved about the first series. All the characters had flaws, making them so real and relatable.

I'm not a fan of the poor little rich girl act. It's overdone.

I also think she's hypocritical. She cut her hair badly with scissors to escape attention, but I think that would cause more attention.

As Anton already mentioned, she tries not to be a typical Aphrodite girl, but she is. She fawns over Jason to no end (what's so good about him?). And what's wrong with sometimes wearing make-up or wanting to look good?

Anton Piper thinks Jason is a god like figure. I won't be surprised if she has a little shrine in her room that shows a naked Jason.

I also find it funny that Jason knows he has flaws but thinks Piper is perfect, while Piper knows she has flaws, but thinks Jason is perfect.

It's like they are trying so hard not to offend each other so that they don't break up with each other. I think this way of thinking is stupid, because if your boyfriend/girlfriend is doing something stupid or dangerous, you have to be able to tell him/her to stop.

Sarah Immel I feel like Rick Riordan tried too hard to make Piper, a more ordinary girl, seem extraordinary. I mean, it was a good effort, but all of the parts where he makes Piper "special" seemed a little forced to me, to be honest.

Triisha I completely agree with what Bionic said, people like Percy and Annabeth together because their relationship has taken time to develop and over time, they've learned the flaws in each other and learned to love them. That's why people are invested in their relationship and would be sad if they broke up (not that that would ever happen). But Piper and Jason are less interesting than all of the other characters, including Frank, Hazel, Leo, Nick, and Reyna, they seem hastily put together, and they lack the respect that Percy and Annabeth have for each other; instead, they idolize each other, and that, along with other reasons, makes their relationship seem bland.

Triisha brennanicole, I understand that in some girls' minds, that is definitely the case, but usually after dating for a little while, the couple feels comfortable enough with the other person that they can joke around with them without thinking that they're absolutely perfect in every way. Also, I understand that she likes Jason more than Percy because she's saying him, but objectively, you'd have to at least say they're equal, just that she prefers Jason's personality. I honestly think (and so do a lot of people) that Jason is the less interesting character, maybe because we haven't been with him as long and we never got a first-person perspective from him, but I can say that I think Percy and Jason's powers are equally as cool, so we're not totally biased towards Percy.

Triisha Viscera, I don't think I like Piper as much add you do, but I certainly don't hate her, and I completely agree. If it was Annabeth in that situation, I don't think she would ever have a thought like, "I'd rather Jason die than Percy." Not only would she want to save them both (and be smart enough to do so, but I digress) because Jason is her friend, she also would never be able to bear the thought of Piper being hurt if Jason did die.

Anton Well, if anyone has to die it should be that scumbag Octavian, along with his siblings, Primum, Secundo, Tertius, Quartus, Quintus, Sexto, Septimo and Nina.

message 90: by Ever (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ever Poor Piper, she just is trying. I think it's because when they see Piper, they see charmspeak, which didn't come to use a lot. They should focus more on the fact that she can catch glimpses of future on her kife, plus she's pretty handy with it too.

Tahlia Some people don't like piper because of the whole Aphrodite messing up/ making annabeths love life 'interesting', and feel like piper, and most of the Aphrodite kids at nosy.

ArtemisTheBookHunter Mmm...At first, I didn't like Piper and I think that was because se wasn't a good demigod...You know, in fighting. And I "thought" (because I feel something like that) she was "the new Annie", but no.
I started to like Piper in the fourth book because she was getting stronger.
Actually, I really like Piper and all the others demigods, and I am not sure of why I don't like her at the beggining.

Just my opinion :3

Eleanor Piper is awesome! Why would people say she is horrible?

Eleanor She is awesome because at first she didn't use her charm speak for good and then she did. I started liking her then.

Niamh Johnston They are all the same in my eyes, all have their own strong points and weak points :):)

Ela I think People hate on Piper because she doesn't have impressive powers like Percy or Jason and because she is a daughter of Aphrodite.

Have you read the book? She is really strong and the visions of the knife helps her too. She is completely different from her siblings. And just because she isn't the best fighter, doesn't mean she's weak.
