Kara | 11 comments She is welcomed into this tribe, makes friends, weeks (months?) go by and at some point she goes through some sort of coming-of-age ceremony after starting her period. When she wakes up for real, it is actually just later that day, but, hmmm, she is tanned like she'd been out in the sun for weeks.

I read this as a pre-teen in the early to mid-70s. For years I have tried to figure out which book this was. Thanks.

Kara | 11 comments That sounds like it! My library doesn't have it, so I will have to see if I can buy it. Thanks for your help!

How do I change the title of the thread to add "SOLVED"?

Kara do you want to have this moved to Solved now--or wait until you see if you can find a copy and insure that it IS your book?

Kara | 11 comments I've now read various descriptions of this book on other sites and I am pretty sure it is the one, but if it is ok to do so, we can leave it unsolved until I know for sure.

bookel | 4027 comments Kirkus review for SATURDAY, THE TWELFTH OF OCTOBER By Norma Fox Mazer. I've seen this book mentioned on other book search forums; must be good. :)

From the review: "Zan ... is able to step back across--after an eleven month absence by her time which is only hours later back home." "... though Zan gets in the end the first period she'd longed for in the beginning, the wish fulfillment is tempered by the contrast between her mother's passing congratulations and the People's glorious celebration of such an event ... "

It sounds like you can mark it solved.

It's ok to wait. Sometimes when we actually get a book in hand that we were so hopeful for, it just falls flat, and we are left heartbroken yet again. So close, and yet NOT the lost love we were searching for. :oP

So we'll wait for you to come back and tell us that you know that that's "the one".
