Searching for a Book about the banning of Huck Finn

I'm writing an article about controversies around Huckleberry Finn, and I'm looking for a novel that I read in around 1996, written for teenagers set I a school in America where the novel had been set as a class reader, and the school student body was split between faction s wanting to ban it and factions supporting the novel.
I THINK it was inspired by the Cherry Hill ban of 1995.
Any clues, erudite Goodreaders?

I am not aware of any. This was a while ago but I think PBS did a documentary of banning books for required reading in public schools.
