book series numbering problem

both say they are book #1 in the Thaddeus Murfee series by John Ellsworth.

Based on the book descriptions, I conclude they are, indeed, two separate books, not a re-issue. Based on publication dates, I'd say one of them is perhaps book 11. However, in reading the book description, I notice that it mentions the hero is fresh out of law school, so it might be a prequel to the entire series (book 0.5?) but they can't both be book #1 in the series.

OK. Looking at it, Thaddeus Murphy is the prequel, however, it is 226 pages so should have #1 status. Amazon have renumbered all the other books.

However, this will mess up all the omnibus editions.

I think we need some other opinions :)

If it's a full-length prequel, it would be numbered as #0 per policy.
