Fishface | 18924 comments What, in psychiatry, is a "superadult"?

A) A living Nietschean superman, and rightfully living above the law
B) A person self-educated beyond the compulsory school years
C) A [person with a harsh, demanding conscience or "superego"
D) A large, powerful intimidating person, both physically and mentally
E) Other (specify)

Jay (mrisolatedalienated) Ironically I know A and C.
I am fan of Frederick Nietzsche although I disagree with your "rightfully living above the law" That is not what being a 'superman" is about according to Nietzsche.

"Superego" is from Sigmund Freud.

I don't think I've heard of the phrase "superadult" though.
B would be a autodidact.

So I am gonna say D.

Hari Brandl (crochetbuddies) | 649 comments Isn't B an autodidact, as someone previously answered?

message 11: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments There can be more than one term for a particular description.

Fishface | 18924 comments Indeed there can. In this case the point is not that the person is self-taught, but that she is educated beyond the bare minimum to qualify a person for adult function in a job and so forth, which in those days meant eighth grade. So anyone who even had a diploma was a superadult, and I don't even know what the term would be if you had a Master's or Ph.D...Demigod?

message 13: by Hari (new)

Hari Brandl (crochetbuddies) | 649 comments On the humorous side, I found several websites that define superadult as a new term for senior citizens.
