Jill Palmer | 1 comments Hey guys! I'm Jill, 20, currently studying Professional Writing and Digital Media. I like books, writing, video games, and comics. One day I hope to have a book published, but at the moment I'm a bit preoccupied trying to get my degree.

I have a blog: https://palmerbookmarked.wordpress.com where I talk about books and writing. Please check it out and tell me what you think!

Monika Needham | 46 comments Thanks, I'm excited to read some of these great books. I love all my lawyer skills but litigation was giving me an eye twitch and pre-mature wrinkles:) Its always fun to read some the legal fiction, I probably drive my friends crazy pointing out inaccuracies.

Hi Crystal, welcome!! Love SK, read a lot of his works as a teenager/adolescent, but then took a break from it. Planning on starting it back up again. Last year I read Under the Dome. Next year I want to read The Dark Tower series; will have to re-read the first couple of ones I'd already read.
Looking forward to discussing some books & movies with you!

This group I found because I was searching for ways to keep track not only of the books I read but also the movies I watch. I happened to stumble upon this group and decided to join. Other groups I found by checking the profiles of members of another group I'm in.

Same story for me. I wanted a group which not only discussed books but also movies and I found this one.

Hey everyone. I'm Lili, an 18 year old English lit student from Brooklyn, though I currently live in Germany with my elderly dog, Jar Jar (I have no regrets), and the killer rabbit from Monty Python. I'm a writer myself and I read in various genres, including fantasy, sci-fi, cozy mysteries, graphic novels and comics and the occasional horror and romance novel.
As for movies, I'm a huge Star Wars and cartoons fan. I very much enjoy the works of Stanley Kubrick and Christopher Nolan, and I also have a fond appreciation for movies of the truly terrible kind (like it's so bad, it's almost good).

Welcome to the group Lili. Its good to have more writers here. Even I am a Nolan fan and have watched all of his movies so far. Sometimes we all like some movies which other people find terrible.

"It's so bad, it's almost good" gets us a seat on Mystery Science Theater 3K." Killer Rabbit? I have a pet rabbit named Scout after one of my favorite fictional characters. Go to my profile and look at the pictures and you'll see the little bookworm bunny sitting among the books. Welcome. We look forward to your comments and reviews.

I used to have a bird ( cockatiel named, well, "Bird"). I used to tell people it was a vicious cockatiel like that rabbit in Monty Python.

Rohit you are correct that our new member volume has dropped!

Previously we were on goodreads featured groups on the main page. It made it easy for goodreads users to join our group.

Unfortunately, the featured groups rotate and due to goodreads group search capabilities it is difficult for users to find our group!

Max and I have been trying to figure out how to market our group and let people know about it.

Let me know if you have any creative ideas to increase membership! Our goal is to reach 1000 members. (:

I agree Susy. I come across many groups with thousands of members, but they're ghost towns!

This group has a diverse group of readers who consistently provide excellent book / movie recommendations and leave well written intelligent comments.

message 229: by Rohit (new)

Not only that they can turn to ghost towns but even with the active groups I notice that it’s less personal, there’s less of a group cohesion. Small groups are more like real book clubs, or like groups of friends.

Yes, that is true. Probably due to the fact that it’s not a featured group at the moment, like Adraina said.

I didn't even know that Dexter was based on books. Pretty dark subject. The TV series wore me down. Has there ever been a series other than Dexter where the protagonist is a murderer?

message 236: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Greetings All! I am Cassandra, 28. I am a salon owner but am currently enrolled in school to pursue my library science degree. Reading and promoting literacy has always been very important, I run a fundraiser every year trading haircuts for books or donations to a literacy campaign (RIF, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, etc.). When not reading I play Jazz Ukulele and enjoy quality time with my family and friends. I live with a dog named Fernando del Torro and my life partner; who has taught me to enjoy movies and I am excited I found this group that merges our 2 interests. I look forward to discussing the age old dispute of books vs movies!

TV or books?
TV series, there was Hannibal... The series is based on characters from Red Dragon.

Sorry to hear that, Robert. I thought the Hannibal series was brilliant. I was quite upset no one picked it up after NBC canceled it after season 3.

LOVE books and movies. Always try to read the book first and then watch the tv/movie adaption.
The latest one I watched was "Love, Simon" based on the book Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (Creekwood, #1) by Becky Albertalli by Becky Albertalli - one of the few times I saw the movie first and then read the book - the book is almost always better!

And now, after finishing The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood by Margaret Atwood, finally, off to watch the hbo-show!

Yes, same for me. But I can imagine that some people do like reading it after the movie. They just have the patience (that I'm lacking) to read a story they already know. I just lose my concentration if I'm not curious and wondering what is going to happen next.

side note:

recently I watched Victor Frankenstein (2015, Director: Paul McGuigan) - interesting retelling, character Igor was not in Shelley's novel but I kind of remember was in an old movie that put this book on the map
