It's time for July's book of the month!!! If you're just joining us, there's plenty of time to catch up. If you want to talk about the first book, and this one, we have discussion pages open for first time readers and repeat readers.

Jan farnworth (tweetybugshouse) I excited this will be a first read through for me thanks for hosting and motivating me to get this series read and off my shelf

Jan farnworth (tweetybugshouse) I read the prologue and the first two chapters. Anyone else feel the prologue while helpful to clarity things if you either did not read the first book or were confused by things felt it was a bit dry?

Where as I love how we started off with a bang of activity and touch of danger and glimpse of relating beyond the school day learning.

Jessye Jennings (jessyejennings_rwna) So I literally did nothing but play with my cat, eat burritos, and read Frost Bite yesterday. Loved it. Can't wait for Shadow-Kissed :D

Jan farnworth (tweetybugshouse) Just finished I liked the ramped up action in this one and how more developed the characters are and that ending was amazing --- anyone else finish yet?

I can identify with her a lot. She grows as a person through the book series. She was raised to be a guardian too, so she also had the mindset of "They come first" so she was completely unprepared for motherhood.

I think she's a good character.

Gina Bowman | 43 comments There doesn't seem to be much of a following. I was hoping someone would be discussing the plots and stuff by now, a little sad, but I do realize that it's been years since the books came out.

I have the 10th anniversary edition of VA and Vampire Academy: The Ultimate Guide on order. I can't wait for it to come in.

Jan farnworth (tweetybugshouse) Ok I four chapters in so my first discussion question would be what your thoughts on the guardian assignments for the field experience?

I really like that Dimitri and the other guardians came up with the idea for Rose to have Christian. They were right, Rose won't always be with Lissa and Lissa does need to know how it works with someone who can't connect on the same level. That reason alone was worth the whole thing.

As for working with Christian, Rose needed to spend time with him as a person. So she could have that connection with him if for nothing more than the future when they're adults and Lissa and Christian are a couple. If she can't find something in him now to like and respect it will only be harder in the future.

For the tension in the book I thought it was done well for her to be surprised. In real life I'd have thought he would let her know and explain the reasons why. She would have accepted it very well after thinking about the "why". She wasn't totally unreasonable in her reaction in the book though.
