Maybe I'm reading too much into the Arista/Hadrian thing. But they have both thought about how their feelings toward each other have changed. Not necessarily in a romantic way, but that they've grown close. I guess we'll see. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I was expecting some one or the other to die since I saw you mentioning sad ending. I was worried most about Gwen after reading the prophesy. So for me it was a relief that it wasn't Gwen for whom I was terrified.

It's possible the author will create a romantic connection between Hadrian and Arista ... Although it's difficult to predict right now... But maybe that's why Hilfred was killed to clear the path for Arista's actual love interest. She didn't love Hilfred according to her words.

Hilfred's death was poorly shown. He seemed so sensible to me. But he tried to fight against so many Seret at the same time. It makes no sense that he will make a decision like that.

Hilfred's death was a bit odd, I think he just wasn't willing to back down because he hoped that he could give Arista a chance to flee. What he did wasn't the smartest, but I think it was out of love. (hide spoiler)]

I don't want Hadrian to have to kill Breckton to save Arista and Gaunt. He's Wesley's brother and he seems pretty great. And oh my goodness, Nimbus is making me laugh so much!

And did Guy test Gaunt somehow? Because he said he knew he couldn't help them and that Esrahaddon was killed for nothing. So did he determine that Gaunt isn't the heir? (hide spoiler)]

So what we were most scared of happening did actually happen. And Royce nearly did let go. I don't think I could have recovered from that. I was worried Royce will die if Gwen dies. I still am worried. Still one more book to go. I don't know if Royce will survive it.

Who is that child Arcadius was talking about training and putting on the throne? Why is Arcadius trying to hide the real heir from Royce and Hadrian? Only safety reasons? Or more?

But Royce and Arista do think it was Gaunt, because he was the one they saw in Avempartha. I think he had the medallion, but the real heir is somewhere else. How they will find them I don't know. Or how Arcadius knows, because he seems to.

I think it was the elves watching Royce, so I think they must come into this last one. I can't think of anyone else who would have been able to sneak around Royce like that. (hide spoiler)]

Yes he is! I never expected this insecurity from him... Also the whole women are not meant to give orders attitude!!! But Arista handles him quite well once she understands his issues

I'm not sure who will be doing the betraying.... Either Magnus or Wyatt again I guess...I doubt anyone has struck a deal with Gaunt to betray them. I mean he's a slippery bastard so the person striking a deal cannot trust him either I think

But seriously.... The emperor who sacrificed himself to create the Gilarabrwyn and his wife and daughter's skeleton was found in the tomb? I think that's taking things too far... Human remains don't last for 1000 years...unless it's because he's part elf

(view spoiler)[Yeah, it's not so much that I didn't expect it...it's just. I'm not really sure. I do wish that he hadn't been being such a jerk though. I might have been a little more saddened by his death. I mean, I wasn't happy about it, I just didn't care as much as I would have liked.
