I just finished chapter four in The Emerald Storm. (view spoiler)[That was sad that Esrahaddon was killed. I guess we should have expected that. But I don't think Gaunt is the heir...it didn't seem like that was who he was talking about, since he probably knew where he was.

This should be interesting, with Royce and Hadrian working a ship. And I wonder what's going to happen with Modina, now that she's starting to function again. (hide spoiler)]

Yes well there must be an heir out there....Kind of ruins the purpose of the story otherwise. Can't guess how though...

Yes I'm glad Arista is using magic...I hope she doesn't get carried away though... It sounds extremely dangerous and she can end up hurting good people

I love both Hadrian and Royce. We mostly get to see the badass side of Royce. Not often do we see his sensitive side.
We saw it once with the beggar child and once when he tells Hadrian in the well that he didn't want Hadrian to leave so he never told Hadrian about the guardian thing. Poor Royce

Amilia's sudden title, her title for the chambermaid, Nimbus, Arista's sudden title for Hadrian before approaching the Nationalists... I'm finding this really funny.


Emery is younger than Arista and Alaric...I don't know his age...But Arista is about 26...I can't remember if it was in his initial description

Ok so never even for a minute had I been able to guess that Degan was the heir until Miranda came and announced it to Hadrian. But it seems they are tricking Hadrian into believing it. Never thought Arcadius would play tricks. But maybe it's for some good cause. Somehow I don't want to associate that old man with any evil or wrong intentions.


I'm just confused how they think they will get away with tricking Hadrian. Eshrahaddon knows the truth right? So he will tell Riyria I think. So the truth will come out.

Atleast I guessed correctly that this Merrick guy helping out Guy is actually Cutter with whom Royce has history. That's where he's hiding himself. With the imperialists.

Not a lot happened in this book. I'm kind of disappointed. The story barely moved. We know pretty much the same things that we knew at the end of Avempartha

I'm loving the book covers! Both Avempartha and Nyphron Rising.... It isn't until you read the books that you understand the meaning of the covers. And they are both monumental moments in the books!

(view spoiler)[Yeah, I really want to know why they are hiding it from Royce and Hadrian. I don't think Arcadius is bad...I think he has good intentions, I just don't know what he's doing. I could be wrong though.

I scared to know what Merrick is going to do now...He's scary. Like Royce but without a conscience, or so it seems.

I feel like this one was more for character development than anything else. There was some movement in the plot, but I think it was more about Arista finding her strength and Modina/Thrace becoming Empress. I think those things will catapult into the next one. (hide spoiler)]

The whole Modina thing (I was curious to know what the Church was planning on doing with her now) did not require a whole book

I guess what bothers me is that a whole book was not required for whatever did actually happen....it could have been cut short a lot

But then again for the first time we see Hadrian and Royce's hometown in this series so probably my reading experience is a bit skewed by reading the prequel. Uhh I don't know what it was.....I need more excitement in the next one....let's see how that turns out...

That was their plan from the very beginning.... When they first decided to crown her as empress...They wanted to get her married to someone of their choosing so as to produce an heir soon and then dispose of Modina. Yes when it comes to Arista there has been some amazing character development

Probably. ..I don't recall it though.... Not surprising given the sheer number of characters
I remember him being worried about someone listening in. The mysteries only seem to be increasing and deepening... Nothing being solved. I hope the two other books are enough for solving everything

And it was when the old guy (don't remember his name) they are traveling with was asking him if he has ever been in love and he says that he doesn't know. Then the guy says it feels like going home and Hadrian gets contemplative and when asked who/what he's thinking about he says he's just thinking about the rain. But I took that to mean the rain that Arista made. There have been hints that something might happen between them. (hide spoiler)]

All this while I was reading the books as some kind of happy go lucky adventure/quest type.... Now I'm worried things may turn serious or tragic

They've definitely gotten darker, so I think something tragic has to happen. I mean, there have been deaths and wars, so our guys can't come out completely unscathed.
