Part of defending yourself as an artist, like possessing entitlement, also includes defining yourself and declaring your intent.
I am a writer. I am a photographer. I am a chef. etc.
But as Gilbert says, "Proclamation of intent and entitlement is not just something you can do once and then expect miracles; it's something you must do daily, forever."
How do you react to this? Do you agree that reminding yourself of who you are and what you want is a constant part of being an artist? Possibly the thing that keeps you going when times get rough? Is it useful even for non-artistic careers?
