The hunger gets better once you get into the pattern of eating less. Your stomach is just used to being stretched more right now, so your body registers more belly-emptiness.

Amen. No we actually spent a good chunk of one of my classes this term talking specifically about the decreased life expectancies of blacks as a result of discriminatory practices or social pressures. There's a hypothesis called the "weathering hypothesis" directly related to the cumulative impact both social and medically felt by black citizens. Like just the treatment they are given by medical professionals compared to that of white women of the same socioeconomic status is stupid. Let alone their social pressures or remnants of racism that has influenced their neighborhoods and housing, history, etc.....
And this not including the child labor present in our agricultural systems. The pesticides that are being linked to obesity among immigrant farmworkers - who live in shitty conditions and with horrible exposures, I might add.
And these aren't even full on hate crimes, just greed and remnant racism. Humanity sucks.

Not that I'm against transgenders, but has it ever occurred to anyone that people go transgender purely because of the social norms society has attached to gender? In an ideal world, gender and identity would be separate, everyone free to wear what they want and be who they want regardless of their sex, but because of all these norms we have built up regarding what is expected of each gender people feel forced to migrate from one gender "box" to another to escape the expectations associated with each.If all ideas of masculinity and femininity were abolished, only people that physically wanted to change themselves would have to go transgender, the two "boxes" or "categories" for male and female identity out of the equation. Everyone would be free to act as, dress how, and be who they wanted without even bringing gender into the equation.
Gender identity is also learned behaviour, to an extent. There are biological factors, but equally, people are born biologically different, so said people would be free to grow into whoever they wished to be if these boxes were not created in the first place, biology acting as a factor but not forcing their hand.
It just seems a little tragic that in their attempts to escape a gender box or stereotype, transgender people are willingly assigning themselves to another. While they may be comfortable in this, it does work to enforce gender norms, ("men must act this way and women must act that way"), and it would be nice for us to live in a society that doesn't force people to assign themselves to the opposite gender just because they want to be who they are free of judgement.
