Since completing this book (I liked it), I've had several individual who've read it tell me they did not like it for various reasons. I'd like to recommend it to my book club, so what do you think. Did you like it or not, and why?

I picked up this book because "everyone" was reading or had read it and liked it. I did not like it -- didn't even want to finish it - had it figured out pretty quickly was surprised when I was right -- just hated wasting time reading about people behaving badly and whining about it. Life is too short to live the way these people did.

I was really disappointed with the book.I found it predictable and exhausting. It was definitely over-hyped.I personally liked Flynn's Sharp Objects a lot better.

Reading Gone Girl was a definite Love/Hate experience. I would read it, put it down with disgust, then pick it up again, wanting to know "what happened next." The story is disturbing and I didn't like the characters. At this point, I'm not interested in seeing the movie.

"I loved the book although i hated the characters" I had the same experience. I really did not like the characters, yet I could put the book down. It was a selection for my book club and made for a good discussion.

I like the book but think the ending could of been better

I very much enjoyed. There is no other way it could have ended. I have read Flynn's other books and always come down to the same question ... how does she come up with these story lines, and should her husband sleep with one eye open? :-)

I liked it. I didn't LOVE it, but I liked it. I got interested in the outcome more than the characters. But when I was done, I didn't feel satisfied. I felt relieved that I finished and that I knew how it all turns out.

Didn't love it, didn't hate it and don't think it lived up to the hype. Gillian Flynn is a gifted writer (I've read her other 2 books) no doubt about it but I didn't love this book as much as I expected to. It was interesting to see how women do change themselves for men and in different relationships. That was very on point. And it's quite sad.
I hated the ending. I thought it was dumb.

I loved this book! The plot was solid and the characters were complex and interesting. The twists kept coming! It is rare to find a book that makes you want to stay up all night to finish--and then makes you sad (like you've lost a friend) when you get to the end.

I loved the book except the ending. I like all the twists and turns throughout but was very disappointed in the end. I didn't like how both characters just seemed to resign themselves to being stuck.

I enjoyed reading Gone Girl. What's stayed with me, rather than the ending, is the backdrop of the abandoned mall and the people living there.

I had a like-hate relationship with the story. I thought the first part dragged, but the twist in part two kept me going. I thought the Amy character was really interesting, though I hated her, with how perfect she thought she had to be and how clever she was to stage her abduction, fake pregnancy, and murder, and how she covered up the trails so no one would ever find out. I didn't like Nick, I thought he was whiny and he didn't much put up a fight.

This book was a difficult read for me. There many things that made me push through to the end but I didn't enjoy it the way many have. I'm not sure if it was the pacing or the unlikable characters, but I had to put it down twice and read something else before I could finish it. For me it was similar to reading The Lovely Bones; all the makings of a great book that I just didn't love. Glad I read it, not sure if I would recommend it.

I liked the plot and the characters, I just wasn't a fan of how bleak it was. I don't know if I want to read another Flynn book and get all depressed over it.

Loved it. The first half of the book, the narration and voice of Amy, was really annoying and frankly I didn't think I was going to make it through. But I had read her other books and new they were good so I kept going and was hugely rewarded when the middle of the book transition happened. No spoilers, but I was very happy when the voice changed. One of those stories where I really rooted for the badguy (girl) but then felt pretty bad about it... sort of, I love villains!

Most overhyped book of that year, I cannot vaguely understand its popularity. Completely ridiculous and implausible. I was completely unable to suspend disbelief, even for a moment.

Liked it and very discussable

I liked it but not the ending.my ending would be that..... Nick still fears Amy and plans on disappearing with the baby .He sets her up by writing a fake diary post on her computer ,saying she hates that Nick and the baby share a love that she can never be apart of ,so she plans on killing them and then herself ( of course blaming Nick somehow). He finds the evidence needed to convict her on Desi's murder and the cops come calling, then shes declared insane, and sent to an asylum.Nick returns to live his life with the child, and the doting grandparents..(who knew all along that Amy was crazy since birth ,but covered it up because they were supposed to be educated psychologists)The grandfather tells the truth about Amys past relationships and her psychopathic behaviour. The grandmother continues to live in denial...nothings wrong with Amazing Amy.....the last page would be Amy in the psych ward ...plotting to escape to "rescue" her baby(who she thinks she actually "loves "...but Amys kind of love is....well ..different.

I didn't enjoy Gone Girl nearly as much as Flynn's other books. It took reading several chapters before I could get into the writer's rhythm and had it not been for the twist at the end, I would have been seriously disappointed instead of only mildly disappointed with the book as a whole.

The book was ok, I followed through all the darkness but the ending soured the whole thing for me. I thought the changing perspectives was well done. But the ending.... It didn't live up to the hype nor does it warrant a movie.

I liked the book a lot. You can't imagine how much I liked it. I spent nights without sleeping, just to finish the chapter. And then, at the end, I just couldn't believe the ending. It was a nightmare.. The worst ending of a book that I've read in my entire life. I still don't know what to think of the book. So much epicness and then comes nothing...

My friend let me borrow this book. I liked it. It was crazy. I can't wait to see the movie.

When you were first reading the book what do you think happened?

First I suspected the parents staged it to come out with new Amazing Amy books. Then I suspected Nick of course (I can't stand Nick), Go, Andie, Desi.

I disliked the first half of the book. Had it not been for all the great reviews, I probably would've just quit part way through and moved on to another book. I just had to know what everyone was so crazed about. I am glad I did finish it because it was one of those rare books that actually turned out to be quite good. I will say it is my least favourite book by Gillian Flynn. I much preferred her other two books: Dark Places and Sharp Objects.

I just finished this book last month. I read it not because it has a movie coming out but because I don't like reading or watching a movie that's predictable. I heard this book was completely unpredictable & it had a twisted ending. All I'll say is not quite. It was a good read but not what I expected so I felt a lil let down.

I loved the book although i hated the characters - it was the first time it happened and i thought it would affect the way i viewed the book. But it didn´t! I liked not knowing what was up for me the next page, what twist Flyn had instaured for me, that totally knocked my socks off.

It was a complusive read and is defo a good book for discussion, because no one is indifferent - people will either love it or hate it - no one stands in the middle.

I did like this book, which suprised me because I actually picked it up because I had just read a very long and intricate work and I presumed Gone Girl would be more shallow but fast and entertaining. I quickly became hooked on the twists and turns of the plot,in particular, the double-meanings of the clues. I liked the way the author revealed the different, conflicting layers in the characters. Also, by the end, I had an extreme dislike of the main character (you know which one), which was a unique experienced for me.

I think this would be a book to discuss, in my opinion.

I really enjoyed the book. I was in fact fascinated by the character Amazing Amy, and in the beginning I was mystified how her husband could view her so negatively when she sounded so gum drop sweet, how just like a normal young housewife I might even know. Her demented views on vengeance were particularly toe curling and I enjoyed experiencing the husband as the community did, doubting that he was sound of mind myself. The twists and turns in this book were delightful and make for an over all absorbing read, in my opinion. I couldn't put it down once I started.

I did not like it. I felt the author was quite manipulative with the information she put forward in the book. The ending was one of the worst I have encountered in many years. Just my opinion, so perhaps it would make a good discussion book after all. And the movie comes out any minute.

I was amused at the twists and turns of the main character. She was a jilted woman who took revenge to the fullest. If you liked this book , you will love the Silent Wife.......

I loved this book. I read it on the recommendation of a co-worker and really didn't have high expectations going in. I ended up finishing the book in a day because I could not put it down. I loved the twists and turns the book took. Usually I figure out the ending to a book like this halfway through but just when I thought I knew it all the rug was pulled right out from under my feet landing me square on my butt!

I hated this book, which kind of disappointed me because I enjoyed her first two books so much. I trudged through it and was even madder when I finished it!!!!

I really, really liked it. The plot was different, exciting and suspenseful. The writing bold and mature. The ending while unpopular was appropriate. It's one of the best books I have read.

I really enjoyed this book also. It was a surprise ending, but what a way for a marriage to run, huh? I was kind of rooting for the husband to finish his book and down 'Amazing Amy', but...
I am looking forward to reading her other two books, but I cannot find them in the libraries that I checked(I know I can go to the bookstore).

I loved this book. Just when you think you have figured out how it will end, Flynn throws you for another loop. The alternate points of view really worked well. I couldn't put it down.

It was a good fast read. I had a hard time liking the characters..but that happens. There were enough plot twists. I liked how Flynn wrote it...the alternate viewpoints don't alway work. As a device for this story....it did. I'd recommend it as a book club selection

I loved this book but found it very disturbing. I do not want to read more of Flynn. However, I will definitely see the movie. Can't wait to see how she changes the ending!

I loved it, but know of many people who didn't.
I think it's a case of you either love it and finish reading it or you hate it and don't finish reading it.
I have since read two of her other books and loved them too

I thought it was GREAT. I loved reading from the different sides. Cant wait to see what changes in the movie. Since then I went back and read the other books written by her they also very well written.

Hated it. First book that I never finished.

Excellent novel - couldn't out it down. I loved everything abiut this - structure, the layers, the sparring between the two main characters, the twists, the turns, the ending - brilliant. It would make a good choice for a reading circle or book club, call it what you will.

Loved it.

When I first started reading the book, I was amazed how I changed my opinion about whose side I was on with each different point of view: her side/ his side; later when full disclosure is finally revealed, I disliked them both! How could you really like either one as they're not likeable people ?! Because I'm a character-driven reader, it was difficult for me, since I liked neither character, but.... the author was clever with her twists/turns ,and I always felt like she kept me on this scary roller coaster zooming toward an ending I never saw coming. I say that they deserved each ,but I would have great difficulty sleeping in that house at night. I think that it would make an interesting book club discussion, especially since one either loves the book or hates it. Go for it !

Loved it all up until the last two chapters. I was expecting her to get what was coming to her and was quite disappointed that nick just bent over like that. I loved the way that Flynn made you love Amy at first and then completely flipped it. That was brilliant.

I've read all three of her books liked them and could never figure them out. I like that in a book keeps me reading.

Like others, the sheer unlikeability of the characters just put me off. First of all I found Amy annoyingly down trodden, and then when she showed her true colours, somewhat implausible. As for Nick, he was horrible from the outset. It's quite clever and well written but wasn't for me.

I really liked this book despite its darkness.
