Two sisters in the summer /s

I read this book when I was about 10 so it is an older children's book (chapter). That was in 1986. What I remember is that there is a family with two sisters and they find out the older one has cancer.They are preteen and maybe teen age. The neighbors really help the younger sister to deal with her sister having cancer. I remember that the wife (of the neighbor) gets pregnant and they decide to name the baby "Happy". I remember loving this book and would like my daughters to read it but I can not remember the title or find it on my own. Thank you.

For some reason, I remembered the kids in her new school called her "Nutmeg". Strange how some things stick with you.

That book has been searched for a number of times. I remember getting a copy to read after the second or third person asked for it. I figured if it made that much of an impression on that many people, it would be worth reading.
