Seth Quillet | 13 comments This is a fiction book that is set in real world But...

It is about a scientist that goes off into the mountains somewhere and finds a living missing link/cave man/Neanderthal.
He brings it home. The introduction into the modern world does not go well for the missing link.

One scene I can remember is a dog attacks the scientists daughter and the missing link kills the dog saving her. Owner of dog and his friends are pissed and verbally attack both for it. Later, if I remember correctly, they are physically attacked.(Get jumped when not expecting it)

I have tried the google and failed. Please, any information, do send!

A guess - Neanderthal by John Darnton?

Seth, around what year did you read this book?

message 5: by Seth (new) - added it

Seth Quillet | 13 comments I read it back in either 99 or 00.
So far, none of those. It is a male missing link, not sci fi/alternate dimension. Just like, scientist in the remote mountains finds the ML and brings it home for study.

Thank you all for helping, we at least now know which books it isn't!
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." - Thomas Edison
Or in this case, we have not failed, we just found 3 books that aren't it.

Stephen (swynn68) | 87 comments Probably not, but I'll suggest Ancient of Days by Michael Bishop. It lacks the found-by-scientist-in-the-mountains part -- Bishop's hominid just shows up in somebody's back yard -- but it does have the human-ancestor-vs.-modernity theme. I don't remember whether there's a scene with a dog.

Andy | 2124 comments I vaguely recall a novel from the last decade or so with this theme; I'll try to remember what it was.

I was thinking of "Next" by Michael Crichton, which is not quite what you were looking for Next

Seth Quillet | 13 comments Adam Found sounds like a book title, but it doesn't appear on Google, Amazon, or even Goodreads.
IDK if it is Adam Found, since according to the google machine no book has that title, but now it bugs me I thought of a book title that the internet says doesn't exist.

I was in a bad car accident, memory from before 95% wiped. Every now and then I get a book in my head, knew I read it before the accident, and want to re read it so I can remember it better. I do the same with shows/movies but those are always 100000% easier to find than books.

Seth Quillet | 13 comments Good try, but no.
Narrowing down the search! Thank you all who are helping!

Teri-K | 305 comments It's not Wild at Heart by Patricia Gaffney, is it? I honestly don't remember if the details fit or not.

message 12: by Seth (new) - added it

Seth Quillet | 13 comments No, unfortunately. He wasn't "captured and studied" in a lab setting. More, Adopted, and taken back to a regular home.
Gah, this is driving me up the freaking wall. Especially since Adam Found sounds right but the title doesn't exist according to Google.

Is it a thriller set in Africa - for example, Almost Adam (1996) by Petru Popescu?

Seth Quillet | 13 comments No, unfortunately.

Ayshe | 4720 comments That's no to both suggestions - Kris' and mine? And are you sure? I searched the google book: https://books.google.com/books?id=jcT... and there is a scene where Adam kills a dog when it attacks the daughter Sandy.

Seth Quillet | 13 comments There is? I tried googling it and it didn't show... Hmm, one second.
Screw it, it's like 2.99 for the kindle edition, buying and reading. Even if it isn't the right one looks interesting.

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5379 comments Ayshe is always right, Seth. She's found me 13 forgotten books.

message 19: by Seth (new) - added it

Seth Quillet | 13 comments Got it, will start reading tonight. So hoping it is the right one.
Gah, my car accident messed up my memory so badly but it is nice getting to re read books again. The Last Vampire series, this, Jurassic Park, so forth. I remember the outlines, but the details are always lost.

Aw, shucks, I've made suggestions that turned out not to be the book, too. (13? I need to get a life) :)

Seth Quillet | 13 comments It is the right one! I didn't remember so much, just that dog scene. Why that dog scene stuck in my brain and nothing else, no idea.
