The El Salvador setting for this story seemed to be a major aspect of the plot. How well did the author do in creating a sense of place? Did you feel it was a critical element of the storyline?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 849 comments I'm pretty sure that it is not as dangerous as depicted, but I don't think I'll be traveling there anytime soon, or, ever. The sense of control that the different factions held over the city created a very dismal feeling.

Between the oppressive climate and the massive jungle overgrowth, it felt like another thing the team had to fight, almost as much as another gang. I thought Gerard did an excellent job of creating setting because I kept having hot flashes just reading about it. Wyatt kept talking about their loss of energy so I knew it was awful.

Laura She writes a vivid description, I was thinking of the movie Romancing The Stone.

Exactly!!!

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments I've been to Costa Rica twice, so the jungle read about right.

Isn't El Salvador where so many kids walked to Mexico to cross our borders? If so, that says something about the atmosphere there, I think.

My Central America geography fails me. It borders Guatemala and Honduras.
