When Victor told Max the truth about Jacob (him and Roland being the same boy) he said that he let the townpeople believe that Jacob was drowned. However Jacob must have visited the town for fairly big number of times. Didn't anyone notice that Jacob was alive ?

It may have been that the people were totally convinced of the lie so they didn't pay attention to detail and the fact that little Jacob was still alive was overlooked. I mean his father was a well-known professor so it would be easy to sell the lie.
maybe !!!But that would require a reader to be a bit presumptious, for the story's sake !!
Not an issue. I could do that.
Coz this book does belong to 'can't put down' category.
