I remember reading this a while after it was published but I would guess 2011-2013, could be a few years earlier though. I remember reading the beginning, where the girl and her friends are doing something risky/impulsive like teenagers do, and they get in trouble and run away or something like that, and the girl ends up on the outside as a result. If I'm remembering correctly, humanity lives in pods or just does not go outside at all and lives in simulations, so when the girl runs away outside she needs help, and she is helped by a guy on the outside. The people living on the outside have evolved to have stronger physical abilities to survive the outside. I know the two fall in love eventually. If anyone can help me find this I would be so grateful!!
