Unfortunately, no. I looked through all of those and I didn't see anything familiar.

No, what do you mean by "play on words"?

I just realized, I think the ending of his name was something like "malcolm the second" or something similar. So the title of the book was similar to "My name is Malcolm the second", but it included his middle and last name too, which I don't remember.

Tonia, what's the tone - funny, angsty, coming of age, serious/sad, romantic, etc.?

Coming of age, sort of serious. The boy is very preppy. The book is first-person narration.

Hi, thanks for replying. No, I haven't found this book yet. The front and back cover illustrations were brightly colored, with a picture of the girl with a name tag on her shirt on either the front or back cover. There was also a picture of the boy on the front or back cover.

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5545 comments I used WorldCat Fiction Finder to search for 'my name is' in the 'title' field, and then filtered by 'juvenile':

I looked through the results and couldn't see anything promising but it might be worth you double checking (or playing around with the search tool yourself).

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Orp doesn't quite fit, but here is the description from School Library Journal
Orp, Orville Rudemeyer Pygenski, Jr., hates his name. Along with his friend Derrick Vivian Jones and his sister Chloe Urath Rudemeyer Pygenski, they form the "I Hate My Name Club." Their first meeting is attended by adults who hate their names. The meeting is a success, however, because Orp's parents attend the meeting, and along with everyone else, confess to hating their own names.

Was this part of a series?
Can you describe any of his classmates or teachers?

I'm afraid that that "I hate my name" book is not it. The book I read had a more mature and complex plot and style of writing, for older kids and teens.

The description from the duplicate thread....

Plot details: A wealthy, preppy boy attends a boarding or private school. He meets a girl his age who is named something like Susan or Sarah and they go to a trailer park at some point to meet a woman (her mother or just someone they know?). They are 11, 12, or 13 I think. Later, the girl and boy go to a high society party where everyone is wearing name tags. On the front and back cover are colorful drawings of the boy wearing a dress shirt or sweater vest with the boarding school crest and a tie, and the girl is wearing her nametag over her shirt. The book is in first person narration of the boy talking about his thoughts. Throughout the book, the boy discusses his relationship with his father or parents who sent him to the boarding school and he also talks about his friendship with his friend Sarah/Susan and the woman he met in the trailer park. The name of the book is something like "My name is Malcolm(Maxmillian?) the second" or "Hello, my name is Maxmillian the second/(third)?" or “Hello, my name is Sarah(or Susan?). I don't think Malcolm is the right name, but I think it started with an M or a similar preppy name. I read this book in the early 2000s, but the book was probably published in the 80s or early 90s.
Genre: children's/youth book, coming of age, fiction.
