Rodger Barber | 1 comments I was recently spoiled that in the Hyperion series the Hegemony of Man falls. I am very upset because it seems every time I want to read a series it always gets spoiled for me. Thankfully, I don't know when or how the Hegemony falls. So my main question is will this ruin the experience for me or should I still read it, and on a scale of 1-10 how bad is the spoiler? Please do not mention any other details or spoilers, thank you.

IMO if a book is worth rereading, then while spoilers kill some of the surprise the story is still worth reading. That isn't one of the books I want to reread, but others love it.

message 3: by Heather (new)

Heather (bruyere) I LOVE that series. I don't even remember what Hegemony of Man is so I'm guessing it actually isn't that much of a spoiler.

Just an FYI - the first book is fairly literary (Canterbury Tales style). If you don't particularly like that, don't worry as the rest of the books do not match literature.

Caitlin | 189 comments I adore that series. As spoilers go that one's mild. As Heather said, the first volume has a more literary conceit and might be harder to get into, but the world is fascinating and the payoff in later books is well worth it. Strongly recommended.

Michel Meijer | 13 comments I read both Hyperion and Endymion books multiple times and still regard them as master pieces of Sci-fi. I therefore beg you, please continue!

Matthew Rotundo | 42 comments I don't think it's much of a spoiler, really. There are certainly bigger, more important spoilers in the series.

They're great books. Read 'em!

Monika Kelemen | 34 comments I love that series and just like Heather, I don't really remember the Hegemony. I remember a good deal of really captivating things and these books are definitely on my list to reread.
If the spoiler really bothers you, you could read another book or two first to put it out of your mind, then go back to it. That has worked reasonably well for me when irritated by spoilers (I hate them too)

Trike | 777 comments I don't remember anything about the Hegemony of Man, but I really didn't like Hyperion, so I'm in the "skip it" camp.
