SOLVED. Guy inherits distant family member's estate which has all these exotic animals and big furry caterpillars. [s]

This guy inherits his great uncle's (?) estate and it finds out about the estate by reading the uncle's journals. It turns out he was an explorer and brought all these animals back to the estate, including these big furry stripes caterpillar like things. I think he witnesses a burial ceremony of these furry things but i'm not sure. The house seems like it has another person in it and it turns out that the great uncle also bought a man back with him who has malaria and I think he dies :(
